The Houston Texans are in the middle of one of the biggest rebuilds in NFL history. After a 4-13 season that actually exceeded expectations, the Texans went into free agency happy to sign endless short contracts with middling players.

That strategy makes sense for the stage the team is in, but there are a couple of key moves that could help this offseason become a good one. There are two moves that the Texans could make to round out their roster as the NFL Draft approaches.

Key moves the Texans need to make to complete their 2022 roster

2. Trade wide receiver Brandin Cooks

This is an absolute no-brainer. The Texans are in the middle of a full rebuild, and Cooks is an aging receiver who should be looking to play for a contender. He still has plenty of value, as he just put up 1,037 and six touchdowns with Tyrod Taylor and Davis Mills as his quarterbacks. If he could post those numbers with those signal-callers, his ceiling with good quarterbacks is sky-high.

Moving Cooks would also unload a huge contract, as he's currently the 15th highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL. The Texans would likely have to eat some of the cap hit in a trade, but it would be worth it to unload such a big contract. There should be a pretty big market for Cooks. There are plenty of contending teams that need receiving help, such as the Green Bay Packers, Indianapolis Colts, and Kansas City Chiefs. All of those teams should be willing to part with a mid-round pick or more to acquire Cooks.

The Packers are the most likely candidate to trade for Cooks, as their wide receiver room has turned into one of the worst in the NFL. They are currently set to start Randall Cobb, Allen Lazard, and Amari Rodgers. That is absolutely unacceptable for a team that wants to play in the Super Bowl. The Packers should be looking for any way to improve the receiving room, and that could mean a trade for Cooks.

1. Sign offensive lineman Daryl Williams

It's rare that good offensive linemen are allowed to hit free agency, but Williams is an exception. After two years as an effective starter for the Buffalo Bills, he is free to sign wherever he wants. Williams was fantastic at right tackle for the Bills and he showed the ability to play guard during his time with the Carolina Panthers. Making him even more appealing is his age. Williams is only 29 years old, which means his best days could certainly be ahead of him.

Bringing in Williams will help secure the right side of the offensive line for the Texans while adding a good young player to the roster. The Texans essentially need upgrades everywhere, but the offensive line is particularly bad. They are currently set to start Charlie Heck at right tackle, which isn't an appealing prospect.

Williams would automatically make life easier for Mills while improving the team's run game. He could also take over for Justin McCray at right guard in a pinch. Overall, any young talent that the Texans can get is an upgrade over their current situation. Williams is young talent at a prime position that the squad should pounce on.
