Now that Drew Brees has officially retired, the New Orleans Saints will begin a new era at quarterback and trying to find Brees' replacement. This in-turn will lead to an exciting showdown during training camp between Jameis Winston and Taysom Hill.

Over the years it has become more and more noticeable that Hill has had a strong desire to eventually become the Saints starting quarterback.

However, it has also been shown that the Saints perform better when Hill continues his role on the team as a position-less player.

He thrives in this role because it gives the Saints more scoring opportunities when he alternates between wide receiver, running back, tight end, and quarterback when they decide to run a wildcat formation. Plus, Winston has shown promise at quarterback in his limited time with the team.

Granted he's only taken a few snaps, but he did come through huge for the Saints in their second round match-up against the Bucs last postseason when he threw a 56-yard touchdown pass to Tre'Quan Smith.

Having said all of this, let's take a look at the two reasons Jameis Winston will beat out Taysom Hill and become the Saints' new starting quarterback.

New team and culture with Saints

With Winston being just 27 years of age, there's still plenty of room for improvement and he's still young enough to develop and grow into a star in this league. Now playing under Saints head coach Sean Payton, Winston will drastically improve not just his overall play, but his approach to the game and how he carries himself on and off the field.

During training camp the Saints will see major changes in his work ethic and effectiveness at the quarterback spot, especially with their zero tolerance policy for immature and reckless behavior. People also seem to forget that in 2019 Winston threw for over 5,000 yards and had an 84.3 passer rating.

Granted he did throw 30 interceptions, but he also threw 33 touchdowns and with Payton guiding him he'd be able to decrease the amount of interceptions thrown while increasing the amount touchdowns he'd throw. In New Orleans, Jameis Winston could fully resurrect his career and take the NFL by storm as a pro bowl caliber quarterback that was written off way too soon.

A true commitment to playing quarterback

With Taysom Hill wearing so many different hats and taking on different positions with the team, he may be spreading himself too thin by also trying to become the Saints new starting quarterback. Not that he wouldn't thrive in this roll, but he's proven to be more effective when he's a versatile offensive threat that can confuse opposing defenses with his dynamic offensive skills.

On the other hand, Winston is a full-time quarterback who would fully commit to that role on the Saints. As a result this would allow him to further excel as their starting quarterback and possibly lead them to another division title and deep playoff run. This may be a tough pill for the Hill to swallow, but Winston's commitment and determination to becoming their new starting quarterback may be what gives him the edge in this competition.

Not to mention his skills and experience have previously been put on display. If there is in fact an edge in this soon-to-be tight-knit quarterback competition, then that very well could be the deciding factor that makes Jameis Winston the new starting quarterback for the New Orleans Saints.
