The NFL season is set to kick off soon and the Houston Texans are in line for an interesting year. This franchise is in quite the hole and are searching for ways to conduct a proper rebuild. To do that, the front office will have to trade a handful of veteran players.

Even though they're in the gutter, the Texans try their best to be competitive. To do that, they'll need the best roster possible moving forward. It might be smart for coaching staff to play their young prospects more often than veterans to help develop their team quicker.

There are two players on the offense that are at risk of losing their starting roles. Houston has a ton of uncertainty surrounding the quarterback position, and a prospect tight end could emerge into a solid player sooner, rather than later. With that said, here are two Texans' first-stringers who are in danger of losing their starting jobs.

Texans first-stringers to watch

Tyrod Taylor

With the Deshaun Watson debacle in full swing, the Houston Texans are likely to have Tyrod Taylor serve as the starting quarterback. Even so, the front office used a third-round selection on Davis Mills in the 2021 NFL Draft. Mills needs time to develop, but he's in a position to receive some playing time this year.

With the roster being completely depleted, the coaching staff might want to consider giving Mills some reps at some point during the season. Watson is likely never to play another snap for the Texans, while Tyrod Taylor is more of a bridge quarterback. Considering Davis Mills was their first pick in the draft, the Texans might as well develop the young rookie right away.

Keep an eye on the Texans' quarterback situation. It's wonky and unstable, which could lead to some lineup changes throughout the year. Houston's best bet is to at least see what their prospects can do, as it can create a nice foundation for next year.

Pharaoh Brown

Pharaoh Brown is currently listed as the starting tight end on the Texans' depth chart, but he's in danger of losing his job. Jordan Akins has been a decent tight end in the past, although he isn't consistent. Meanwhile, Brevin Jordan is an exciting rookie who could become a solid starter down the road.

Brown hasn't been the most impressive tight end throughout his career, which doesn't bode well for his chances. Akins has flashed potential and if a switch is made in the lineup, he should be given the starting job. Brevin Jordan needs time to develop, so giving Jordan Akins more playing time instead makes the most sense.

For now, Pharaoh Brown holds onto the starting spot, but we'll see how long that lasts. The Texans won't be a good team this year, but the coaching staff will want the best possible roster for the 2021 season. Akins has about two weeks to persuade the coaching staff to name him the starter. Keep an eye on this situation, as this is a realistic scenario that can happen for the Texans.
