Slowly, but surely, Panini is releasing new products that feature players from the latest NBA season. It started with NBA Hoops, a low-end set that comes with fun and flashy inserts. After that, the card company released Certified, which gave collectors a chance to hunt the first patch autographs of rookies in their NBA jerseys this year. After those two products come, one of Panini’s staple offerings to the card enthusiasts everywhere – the 2020 Donruss set.
Released during the start of March this year, Donruss cards from Panini are all over the market. During that time, a lot of collectors have already gotten their hands on this product and pulled amazing bangers from it. Shown below are some first impressions of this set and why card enthusiasts should greatly consider investing in it.
A Fresh, New Look
The new Donruss card design harkens back to its 2017 look, although this version has more pop with added color to it. The Donruss worded logo, along with the current season, is found at the top while the player’s name and team are positioned down below. The Rated Rookies sub-set, which consists of 50 NBA cards, also uses this design with the player front and center.
This flashier and more colorful design is used in the 200-card base set. Panini also released a lot of parallel and numbered variants to their base card design, making it louder and more attention-grabbing. Of course, while the Donruss card design looks good, it isn’t as captivating as Panini’s chrome cards are. These cards lake the shimmer and still feel like the traditional stock NBA cards are known to be made of. While that isn't necessarily a bad thing, those who want that shiny look can wait for a few more months for the company to release its Optic product, which uses the same design but with more chrome to it.
Tons of products for hobby and retail customers
There are times when a card product is limited to one variant only. During that scenario, consumers will have a hard time hunting for that said product. Well, that won’t be the case with the 2020 Donruss set.

For those who would rather take their chances at retails, there are blaster and hanger boxes readily available, containing 88 and 50 cards respectively. There are value packs too that have 30 cards with retail-only inserts also. Finally, Panini has a more expensive Donruss Choice box for those who are looking for numbered and autographed cards.
These various products under the Panini brand will make sure collectors have a lot of options when buying this set. In this way, everyone can get their fill of the latest basketball cards without running out of supply.
Loaded with NBA insert cards
First, the good news. Panini’s 2020 Donruss set is filled to the brim with inserts. The hobby box contains exclusive inserts, such as Net Marvels, Craftsmen, and Crunch Time, to name a few. Meanwhile, retail-only products offer cards like Franchise Features, Complete Players, and Fantasy Stars, to customers.
Most of these insert designs are eye-catching and fun to collect. The most notable of these and often in demand are the Net Marvels inserts, which feature the NBA’s hottest players in a comic book cover-inspired card. While this set is a winner among fans, other Donruss inserts are clearly not.
Some designs, like Craftsmen and Fantasy Stars, don’t possess the same flair or style their previous versions offered. What customers will get are NBA cards that look uninspired and bland. Nevertheless, it would be better to chase the parallel or rookie cards from this set than these inserts.
Just like Panini’s NBA Hoops, the Donruss brand is designed to be an affordable product almost everyone can chase. Even if that’s the case, there will always be a lot of value and amazing cards to be found in this set. Just make sure to be discerning with your purchases so you won’t end up overpaying for Donruss basketball cards or boxes in the market.
