Week 15 Waiver Wire Pickups

10. Justin Jackson – RB
1.6% Rostered
Los Angeles Chargers

It is essentially Austin Ekeler or bust for the Los Angeles Chargers’ backfield, and that was on full display when Ekeler suffered his ankle injury against the Giants on Sunday. Having had it taped back up, Ekeler reportedly could have returned to the game if it would have been close, but did not return and played it safe.

In his absence, both Justin Jackson and Joshua Kelley helped take over, splitting 19 carries between both (Kelley had 10 compared to Jackson’s 9). While the basically-even distribution makes it hard to pick which back to target, the nod goes to Jackson based on his passing work, something that helps set himself apart from Kelley. While HC Brandon Staley remains steadfast on Ekeler having a short turnaround for Thursday’s game, Jackson is a smart backup plan to pick up.

9. Amon-Ra St. Brown – WR
10.5% Rostered
Detroit Lions

It took 14 weeks, but the Detroit Lions were finally eliminated from postseason contention, which was longer than it took for the Houston Texans to get the boot. At the same time, it seems as though Jared Goff has finally found his WR1 – Amon-Ra St. Brown.

After catching the game-winner against the Vikings, St. Brown led the team in targets (12) by a healthy margin, and he hauled in 8 balls for 73 yards, another game where Goff looked his way early and often. With Arizona and Seattle up next for the Lions, look for St. Brown to continue to get a ton of targets.

8. Austin Hooper – TE
34.1% Rostered
Cleveland Browns

Tying for the second-most targets on the day, Austin Hooper was the only healthy tight end for the Browns after David Njoku and Harrison Bryant were out with different ailments – and his five catches for 30 yards and a score was a healthy output.

Not a big-time output year for Hooper, his streaky nature should make you wary. But with the Raiders, Packers, and Steelers up next, you could do much worse than bring Hooper in if you have any injuries that strike your TE depth.

7. Gabriel Davis – WR
2.5% Rostered
Buffalo Bills

With Emmanuel Sanders fighting a knee injury from Sunday’s loss to TB, Gabriel Davis jumped into WR3 snaps and made it two consecutive games with a score, hauling in 5 passes for 43 yards on 8 targets.

Davis is not going to be a WR that you can heavily lean on as a startable WR2, but you certainly can look to bring him on for solid depth, especially if Sanders is forced to miss considerable time. Slotted behind both Stefon Diggs and Cole Beasley on the WR depth chart, as well as having TE Dawson Knox ahead of him in the pecking order, Davis’ opportunities can be limited, but he brings a solid upside for your waiver wire pickups.

6. Tyler Huntley – QB
0.4% Rostered
Baltimore Ravens

This list entrant is all reliant on the health of Lamar Jackson, who left Sunday’s game early with an ankle injury later discovered to be a sprain. While Jackson obviously is reliant on his legs to make plays, that lessens his efficiency, which can help boost Huntley’s chances at starting.

In relief of Jackson, Huntley looked more than proficient in the BAL offense, even if he did have a few costly decisions, and while facing a tough Packers’ defense would present Huntley with tough looks to diagnose, Green Bay struggles to contain running QBs, which boosts Huntley’s ceiling if he gets the start.

5. Jamison Crowder – WR
33.8% Rostered
New York Jets

The New York Jets are worse than bad, which certainly limits any of their players for fantasy football purposes. However, with Elijah Moore on IR and Corey Davis out for the remainder of the season, it falls to Jamison Crowder for the time being as the WR1 for Zach Wilson.

Crowder is nothing special to write home about, but just the sheer opportunity that he has in front of him boosts his value. Wilson has taken his lumps so far this year and looked extremely rough on Sunday, but Crowder should be added based on his potential target share alone.

4. Rashod Bateman – WR
24.9% Rostered
Baltimore Ravens

Up and down is how you can describe Rashod Bateman’s rookie season so far, as the Minnesota rookie has put up 100 yard games and produced goose eggs within the span of a few weeks. The learning curve can be hard for rookie WRs to grasp, which absolutely can justify Bateman’s season.

But with the Ravens needing to change up their attack, Bateman’s role has expanded as the season has progressed, which includes putting up 7/103 against the Browns, a team he only had 4/31 two games prior. He carries a high ceiling for the rest of the season, but beware of his inconsistencies.

3. Russell Gage – WR
45.2% Rostered
Atlanta Falcons

Similar to the opportunity at hand for Crowder, Russell Gage has become the WR1 in the Atlanta Falcons offense, and he can become one of this year’s fantasy football late-season savants.

Six-plus targets over his past four games shows a sense of consistency hardly found on the market, so making Gage your top WR priority for your waiver wire pickups this week is a must.

2. Justin Fields – QB
15.8% Rostered
Chicago Bears

Still looking for a QB to help your postseason push? Your options are limited, but Justin Fields has a favorable remaining schedule that adds some intrigue.

With the Vikings (2x), Seahawks, and Giants left on the docket, Fields has a few teams that are easily attacked through the air, boosting his ceiling. Fields carries a higher ceiling than the likes of Davis Mills, Mac Jones, or Cam Newton for waiver wire pickups, plus Fields’ rushing abilities give him a nice upside.

1. Rashaad Penny – RB
5.7% Rostered
Seattle Seahawks

The top option for your waiver wire pickups falls to the starting running back for the Seattle Seahawks currently, Rashaad Penny, especially after his dominant performance Sunday against the Texans.

Taking 16 carries for 137 yards and 2 scores is a great day, but take it with a grain of salt since it was against Houston. A downside is that Penny is not featured much in the passing game, as he only received one target, so his value is more predicated on game script to run the ball.

With Seattle being a run-heavy team, that certainly boosts Penny’s stock, but keep in mind that when facing the Rams, Bears, and Lions next, Penny may have a tough time getting going if the trenches are filled.
