It can be difficult to evaluate the tight end position for fantasy football, as it is the most volatile in the game. There are only a handful of consistent fantasy producers, making it hard to stream the position as well. As usual, there is a list of players to consider, while there are others to avoid completely. It's time to continue our fantasy series with a fantasy football Week 4 tight ends start 'em sit 'em evaluation.

Finding the right matchup is key especially if you don't have one of the elite fantasy tight ends. A player who receives a ton of volume is always a good option. Additionally, it's important to note that some opportunities have opened up due to injuries throughout the early portion of the season. This is a great way to find a safer option in fantasy football.

At the same time, it's important to know who to avoid playing as well. There are some bad matchups for a few tight ends in Week 4 that could result in poor fantasy production. It's either that or the player doesn't have the consistency to repeat their numbers from the previous week. With that said, here is our fantasy football Week 4 tight ends start ’em sit ’em breakdown for your fantasy leagues.

Fantasy Football Week 4 Tight Ends Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em

Start ‘Em

Noah Fant – Denver Broncos

The Denver Broncos have been plagued with injuries to start the season. Jerry Jeudy is out for several more weeks while KJ Hamler was lost for the rest of the year in their last game. That leaves the Broncos with a limited number of pass targets for Week 4.

Denver faces off against the Baltimore Ravens as they take on their first real test of the season. However, this is a great matchup for Noah Fant regardless. He should be the second pass option for Teddy Bridgewater. Simultaneously, the Ravens defense has struggled to defend tight ends this year (although they did bottle up TJ Hockenson). Either way, Fant is in a prime position to have a big game on Sunday and should be started in all formats.

Rob Gronkowski – Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Tom Brady has been targeting Rob Gronkowski often this year. They have a unique connection that most teams don't have. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are taking on the New England Patriots on Sunday night, making this the ultimate revenge game of revenge games.

Brady is likely to have a great game. However, he's also likely to throw to Gronkowski often as well. They both made history on the Patriots and the quarterback/tight end duo want nothing more than to dominate Bill Belichick and the Patriots. Start Gronk if you have him, as he could be in for another multi-touchdown performance.

George Kittle – San Francisco 49ers

It was a slow start for George Kittle this season, but the San Francisco 49ers got him going in Week 3. He should be able to maintain consistency, as the 49ers take on the Seattle Seahawks. Kittle might be in for a massive performance, as the Seahawks have one of the worst defenses in the league.

Kittle should serve as the focal point in the passing game in this matchup. No one in Seattle can defend him. Jimmy Garoppolo should be targeting George Kittle as often as possible as he's a mismatch nightmare for the Seahawks. Start Kittle with confidence, as he's just getting warmed up. He should be in for another big season and be a top-four tight end this year.

Sit ‘Em

Dalton Schultz – Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys routed the Philadelphia Eagles and Dalton Schultz played a vital role. Even so, he's not the most reliable option for fantasy football. The Cowboys have a plethora of weapons that allow Dak Prescott to spread the ball around. Additionally, it's still unclear whether or not Dalton Schultz is even the best tight end on the Cowboys.

RECOMMENDED (Article Continues Below)

Schultz is not a key component for the Cowboys' offense, which makes him an unreliable fantasy asset. He has more boom or bust potential, making him a risky play nearly every week. If you're hoping for lightning to strike twice, I highly suggest searching for a different option. Dallas plays the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, who have proven to be a tough defense this year.

Robert Tonyan – Green Bay Packers

It's been a roller coaster for fantasy managers who have Robert Tonyan rostered on their team. He has all of the potential in the world, but Aaron Rodgers doesn't look Tonyan's way as often as we'd like. Outside of Davante Adams, no other pass option for the Green Bay Packers has contributed as a solid fantasy football option.

He's too volatile and the Packers play the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 4. The Steelers are a struggling team right now, but their defense is no joke. This is a terrible matchup for Robert Tonyan and he should be benched this week in fantasy football.

Evan Engram – New York Giants

Evan Engram has been less than efficient throughout his career. He has a ton of potential and could be an elite fantasy football tight end. Instead, having Engram rostered is more like a thorn in your side. He drops passes at a higher rate than most in the NFL and struggles to do anything whenever he has the ball.

He should be avoided completely in Week 4, especially since the New York Giants have a tough matchup against the New Orleans Saints. This Saints defense has been decent so far and they should be able to contain Evan Engram on Sunday. Avoid starting Engram if you can, as he's not a reliable option for fantasy football.
