The San Antonio Spurs turned a few heads with their 12th overall selection in the 2021 NBA draft, opting to take promising young guard Josh Primo.

The shooting guard out of Alabama has good size at 6-foot-6 and can space the floor well as another wing for the Spurs roster. His shooting numbers weren't crazy at 38.1% on just 3.8 attempts but he shown flashes of projecting as an elite outside shooter if he reaches his potential.

Primo is still just 18 years old, and would have definitely gotten more run had he returned for another season. His modest production in his only year at Alabama may hide the talent that could definitely translate at the next level, as he played just 22.5 minutes per game. His stats don't exactly jump out at you, at 8.1 points and 3.4 rebounds per game.

But we're talking about the San Antonio Spurs here. You could argue that perhaps they could have traded down to acquire assets and still take Primo, but it's hard to doubt them in terms of identifying NBA draft talent.

San Antonio has long been known to have the ability to identify talent with mid to late first round picks. Now armed with a 2021 NBA draft lottery pick, Josh Primo and the Spurs may look to surprise some people.
