2022 US Open favorites odds

Rory McIlroy (+1000).  It wouldn't have mattered if McIlroy did not win the 2022 RBC Canadian Open last Sunday with regards to his odds status for the 2022 US Open. McIlroy is always going to be among the favorites in any tournament he's entered, given the overall form he's been showing so far this season.

The Northern Irishman, following his victory at the St. George's G&CC, now has a total of six top 10s in just 10 starts in the 2021-22 PGA TOUR campaign. Ever since he got cut at the 2022 Valero Texas Open back in early April, McIlroy has gone on a tear, as he's stitched together five made cuts in a row, during which he finished inside the top 10 four times. McIlroy's style is also a fit for the challenges that await him at The Country Club. He is currently ranked third this season with a .913 strokes gained: off-the-tee and a total strokes gained adjusted of +0.11, per Data Golf — second-best among all PGA TOUR players.

Justin Thomas (+1200). A missed cut at the 2022 Charles Schwab Challenge did not dampen Thomas' spirits at all. After all, he went to that event still riding the wave of momentum from his 2022 PGA Championship triumph. Thomas shrugged off that forgettable performance at Colonial Country Club before resurfacing in Toronto for the 2022 RBC Canadian Open, where he finished third.

That gives Thomas three top 3s and nine top 9s in 15 starts this season. When it comes to a major tournament, Thomas seemingly manages to find another gear. In fact, two of his top 10s this season are from major tournaments. Apart from his win at the 2022 PGA Championship, Thomas also went T-8 at the Masters Tournament last April.

Jon Rahm (+1300). Of course, Rahm is among the favorites to win this week in Brookline. Even though he only has one win to show for this season (he won the 2022 Mexico Open at Vidanta last May), Rahm has consistently put himself in the position to win tournaments. Out of 13 starts, he has collected nine top 25s, six top 10s, and three top 5s. He also has yet to miss a cut in a tournament this year, plus he is coming off a strong T-10 at the 2022 Memorial Tournament.

The 27-year-old Spaniard is pacing everyone in the PGA TOUR this season in terms of strokes gained: off-the-tee (1.194), which highly suggests that he will be able to nicely negotiate the terrain at The Country Club. In addition to that, Rahm is no. 1 with a 72.34 greens in regulation percentage and fifth in driving distance — another important statistic to note about golfers when teeing off at courses like The Country Club.

2022 US Open sleepers odds

Harold Varner (+6500). Ranked 49th in the world, Varner is quietly putting together a decent season. He could be a sneaky play to make the top 25 and even the top 10 at the 2022 US Open. For one, Varner is 9/9 in his last nine starts and he recently had back-to-back top 5s when he went T-3 at the 2022 RBC Heritage and T4 at the 2022 Zurich Classic of New Orleans. It's also exciting to think for Varner that his +.06 total shots gained adjusted is tied with the likes of Rahm, Patrick Cantlay, and Jordan Spieth.

Keegan Bradley (+7500).  Bradley hasn't struck out a lot this season, with just three missed cuts in 18 starts. And those MCs are far apart from each other. He is on a groove heading to The Country Club, as he is 6/6 in his last six starts, which include a T-8 at the 2022 Valero Texas Open, T-4 at the 2022 Zurich Classic of New Orleans, and a T-2 at the Wells Fargo Championship.
