For the first time in its relatively young history, the Wells Fargo Championship will be held at TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm after playing mostly at Quail Hollow Club. Rory McIlroy ruled the competition in 2021, but will he be able to repeat his success in this event? The field isn’t brimming with the usual big hitters, but there’s definitely not going to be a shortage of talent on the field this week to threaten McIlroy’s status as the favorite to win it all.  With that said, check out some of the 2022 Wells Fargo Championship favorites and sleepers along with the pick to win it all in Maryland.

2022 Wells Fargo Championship Favorites Odds

Rory McIlroy (+750). McIlroy is set to return to action after a few weeks of rest. His most recent start was at the 2022 Masters Tournament, where he settled for a runner-up finish behind Scottie Scheffler. It was a solid rebound nonetheless for the Northern Irishman, who was cut in the prior tournament (2022 Valero Texas Open). McIlroy already has a win this season in the bag, having won THE CJ CUP @ SUMMIT in October of last year.

Perhaps the most important thing to know about McIlroy with regards to his participation at the 2022 Wells Fargo Championship is that he is the defending champion of this event. Even though this will be played on a different course, all eyes will be on McIlroy, who’s got a total of 20 PGA TOUR victories under his belt.

Corey Conners (+1700). It’s not a surprise to see Conners get short odds to win this weekend. He has been consistently good lately. He has made the cut in each of his last six starts. Last week, he finished T-12 at the RBC Heritage. Before that, he was T-6 at the Masters Tournament. Although he has not won anything yet this season, he has always put himself in a position to play meaningful golf all the way to Sundays. In his only appearance so far in his career at TPC Potomac, finishing with a T-41 at the 2018 Quicken Loans National. However, lots of water has gone under the bridge since then. Conners is a much-improved pro this time around – one who’s managed to collect a pair of top 10s and seven top 25s in 14 starts this season.

Tony Finau (+2100). The 32-year-old Finau has finally ended his top-10 less drought this season when he finished with a T-2 at the 2022 Mexico Open at Vidanta last Sunday. It’s easily his best performance of the 2021-22 PGA TOUR campaign. Overall, he’s only cracked the top 25 twice in 13 starts. But a strong performance in Mexico could be where Finau turned the corner. In that tourney, Finau recorded an overall shot gained total of +3.19, third-best among all players. So far this season, Finau is 11th with 70.83 greens in regulation percentage.

Wells Fargo Championship Sleepers odds

Kevin Streelman (+7500). There aren’t a lot of people looking at Streelman’s direction ahead of the 2022 Wells Fargo Championship. Ranked just 109th in the world at the moment, the 43-year-old Streelman is 11/17 this season and is coming off a forgettable T-67 at the 2022 Mexico Open at Vidanta. Before that, he was cut at the 2022 RBC Heritage. All that being said, Streelman is 2/2 at TPC Potomac, including a T-17 at the 2017 Quicken Loans National. Also notable is the fact that Streelman is currently 7th this season with a driving accuracy percentage of 69.21. Driving accuracy is especially important at TPC Potomac.

Sung-Hoon Kang (+13000). Nothing is special about Kang this season. In 21 starts, he’s made the top 10 just 10 times, with his best finish being a T-22 in last March’s 2022 Puerto Rico Open. He’s also been cut five times in his last six starts. However, Kang seems to be a different player when he’s teeing off at TPC Potomac, where he has finished inside the top 5 in both of his career starts there.
