David Njoku is set to hit free agency this offseason, and he could have a handful of suitors on the open market. Despite a drop-off in production since his second season in the league, Njoku still boasts a lot of potential, which could be unleashed in the proper situation.

Last year with the Browns, Njoku caught 36 receptions for 475 yards and 4 touchdowns. While the Browns could have interest in bringing Njoku back to Cleveland, the team also has Austin Hooper under contract, as well as Harrison Bryant, who emerged as a red-zone threat late in the season. If Njoku were to leave Cleveland, there would be plenty of teams interested in adding the 25-year-old to their ranks, in hopes of getting his career back on track.

The market for Njoku should begin to heat up as the offseason progresses, but these three teams represent the most logical fits for the tight end in 2022 NFL free agency.

3. New York Jets

The Jets are in dire need of an upgrade at tight end, having received minimal production from the position over the past few seasons. Ryan Griffin was their most productive tight end, and he finished the year with just 27 catches. Adding a young playmaker like Njoku to the mix could be a great move for the Jets, who could also be interested in fellow free-agent tight end Mike Gesicki.

Zach Wilson's development will be put to the test in Year 2, and having a reliable option to catch passes at tight end would make a world of difference for the young quarterback. Njoku could be a good fit for the Jets in that he'll likely demand a lower price tag than Gesicki, which would enable the Jets to upgrade the (very many) other positions of need on their roster. Njoku's athletic build at 6-foot-4 is just the type of player the Jets should be targeting in their quest to get Wilson some more weapons.

2. Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers are a team that is looking to land in the playoffs in 2022 after heartbreakingly missing out in 2021. With Jared Cook set to hit free agency, the Chargers could opt to take a long look at Njoku in the offseason. The Chargers project to have among the most cap space in the league this offseason, so it would make sense for them to splash out on an area of need.

Bringing a young talent such as Njoku and allowing him to play alongside Justin Herbert could be exactly what the 25-year-old needs in order to maximize his potential. Njoku has spent the past five seasons catching passes from the likes of Baker Mayfield and De'Shone Kizer. In order to truly see what the former first-round pick is capable of, perhaps pairing him with a rocket-armed QB like Herbert is the best route to take.

1. Philadelphia Eagles

Following the departure of long-tenured tight end Zach Ertz last season, the Eagles found themselves shallow at tight end. Dallas Goedert is a clear cog for the future, but apart him the position generated next to no production. Goedert hauled in 56 receptions last season, racking up 830 yards and 4 touchdown catches in what was a career year. The next best tight end on the team was Ertz, who featured in just six games for the team. Behind Ertz, Jack Stoll and Tyree Jackson had the biggest impact on offense, combining for 7 receptions and 44 yards.

The need for another body at tight end is evident, and Njoku could be a key piece of the youth movement on Philadelphia's offense. Playing alongside the likes of Jalen Hurts, Devonta Smith, Miles Sanders, Goedert, and Quez Watkins could enable Njoku to enjoy a favorable target share while also helping the Eagles get back into contention in the NL East, and perhaps make a deeper run in the playoffs.
