After a tough year, the New York Jets look ahead to a busy offseason. Although the roster isn't the best, they do have some key pieces to re-sign before the start of the 2022 NFL free agency. We take a look at New York's roster and go over who deserves to come back in the Jets free agency.

There are numerous holes on the roster but if the front office can make the right changes, the Jets should make big improvements next season. Defensively, New York wasn't terrible. Meanwhile, the offensive line struggled throughout most of the year. This team should consider building the trenches and maintaining the defense for the most part.

For that reason, two offensive players deserve to be re-signed. Although there were numerous problems with the passing game, the Jets would be smart to bring back two pass options who played decently enough. Meanwhile, New York will have a chance to re-sign a key defensive player in the secondary.

With that said, here are three key players who should be re-signed before the Jets 2022 NFL free agency.

Jets Free Agency Re-Sign Candidates

3. Tyler Kroft

He's not the most exciting name, but Tyler Kroft proved to be the best tight end on the roster this season. He's much more proficient as a blocker and it wouldn't be surprising to see the Jets bring in a new tight end in the offseason. Regardless, Kroft proved to be reliable for New York throughout most of the year.

Re-signing Kroft gives the Jets some consistency in the tight end position. He can be a veteran leader in case the front office drafts an exciting prospect. Either way, Tyler Kroft deserves a role on this offense, even if he's not the starter moving forward.

2. Braxton Berrios

New York struggled in the passing game due to a lack of pass protection and an insane amount of drops from the receiving group. Only two receivers stood out as valuable assets, Elijah Moore and Braxton Berrios. For Berrios, it took injuries for him to get playing time, but once he was on the field, the third-year receiver proved to be a reliable weapon for the Jets.

Considering the number of holes this roster has right now, the front office will have its hands full all offseason. Finding a way to improve the offensive line should be the top priority for New York. With that in mind, the Jets might not be able to address the wide receiver position. For that reason, Braxton Berrios should be re-signed and possibly given a more prominent role next year.

1. Marcus Maye

Marcus Maye is one of the most underrated safety's in the league. He would have had a bigger year had he not fallen to injury. Either way, the Jets would be smart to keep him, as Maye can be a leader for this young defense.

With the Jets' secondary being the strongest asset of the team, re-signing Marcus Maye makes tremendous sense. New York would maintain what they have in the secondary and can focus their attention on everything else. Having Maye lead the way, the defense is in a good spot to improve next year. This will give the front office the leisure to focus on the offense throughout the offseason. There are too many benefits Marcus Maye brings to the table for New York to ignore.
