The Pittsburgh Steelers are officially in a new era with Ben Roethlisberger officially retired. It'll be interesting to see how this franchise plays in the upcoming season, as the team is relatively stacked. However, there are a few areas that could still use some improvement, which opens up the possibility of another acquisition. With that in mind, we look at three potential trade targets for the Steelers to round out their 2022 roster.

Stephen Tuitt's retirement came as a bit of a shock and left Pittsburgh in a tricky situation. The defense should be fine, for the most part, but it'd be wise of the front office to find a replacement for Tuitt immediately. If the Steelers can acquire a talented defensive end, then they should be in a great spot for the upcoming season. If not, then there will be a noticeable hole within the front seven.

The Steelers will do their due diligence and may opt to sign a free agent instead. However, if a veteran defensive end/tackle garners their interest, then the front office may make a big trade. We'll see how it plays out, but Pittsburgh has some work to do to replace Stephen Tuitt.

With that said, here are three trade targets for the Steelers to complete their 2022 roster.

Steelers Trade Targets To Complete 2022 Roster

3. Tyquan Lewis

Tyquan Lewis is currently in a backup role for the Indianapolis Colts. Even so, the Steelers could benefit from bringing him on board. Lewis would be in a position to compete for a starting role in Pittsburgh. Additionally,  the front office would have the privilege of potentially re-signing him at the end of the season.

With how good the Steelers' defense is, they can get away with acquiring a rotational caliber player for the defensive line. Tyquan Lewis would certainly improve the current defensive end situation, as Pittsburgh would suddenly have multiple decent options for that position.

2. Da'Ron Payne

This would be a difficult trade to pull off considering Da'Ron Payne is a major contributor for the Washington Commanders. Even so, he's in the final year of his contract and there is no guarantee he'll re-sign. The Steelers could find a deal that pleases Washington to acquire Payne.

This kid would vastly improve the defensive line. He's a great option within the front seven, as he routinely controls the trenches. Having him rush up the middle with TJ Watt on the outside sounds like a dream pairing. If the Steelers are wanting to make a big upgrade, they can do so by trading for Da'Ron Payne.

1. Javon Hargrave

If the Steelers want to really make some noise, they'll target Javon Hargrave in a trade. The veteran's days with the Philadelphia Eagles might be numbered. He's set to hit free agency next offseason and the front office drafted Jordan Davis. Considering Philadelphia has acquired an exciting rookie prospect in the same position, the Steelers could make a move to bring Hargrave into Pittsburgh.

This defense would be absolutely elite with Javon Hargrave on the roster. The front seven would control the trenches completely. Considering the Steelers play in a division with Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow, and Deshaun Watson, stacking the defensive line makes a ton of sense. A defensive tackle like Hargrave would elevate the roster to new heights.
