The New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks put on a show on “Sunday Night Football” in Week 2. It was a game that went back and forth and showcased the best from a serious playoff contender in each conference. However, when everything was said and done, the Seahawks were able to get a last-second stop on the one-yard line against Cam Newton to seal the win by a final score of 35-30.

Russell Wilson put together a massive performance for the Seahawks, completing 21 of his 28 pass attempts for 288 yards, five touchdowns, and just one interception. He also picked up 39 yards on the ground. DK Metcalf led the Seahawks in receiving with four receptions for 92 yards and a score, while Chris Carson racked up 72 yards on 17 carries and caught three passes for 36 yards and a score.

On the other side of things, Newton completed 30 of his 44 passes for 397 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. He also racked up 47 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. Julian Edelman was a monster for the Patriots, catching eight passes for 179 yards in the contest.

Both teams are going to be threats in the respective conference. Even without Tom Brady, the Patriots are going to be a team to watch alongside the Baltimore Ravens and Kansas City Chiefs. The Seahawks could very well make a Super Bowl run in the NFC as well.

Let's take a look at the three biggest things that can be taken away from the Patriots vs. Seahawks thriller in Week 2.

3. Cam Newton Is Just Fine And A Option For The Patriots' Future

There were quite a few questions this offseason about whether Newton would be able to return to form or not. He has struggled with injuries over the last few years and no one knew quite what to expect. Newton has silenced any doubts that he was a good pickup for this season and could be forcing the Patriots to consider re-signing him for longer than the 2020 campaign.

In two games, he has completed 71.4 percent of his passes for 552 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Newton has also chipped in 122 yards and four touchdowns on the ground.

Newton may not be an MVP candidate again in his career, but he is a star quarterback worthy of starting for any team with which he ends up. Bill Belichick and company may choose to keep him around longer. New England will be a force to be reckoned with assuming Newton stays healthy and plays at the level he has played at through the first two weeks.

2. The Russell Wilson For MVP Campaign Is Legit

Over the past few years, Russell Wilson has been one of the NFL's most underrated superstars. No one will argue that he is a top five quarterback in the game currently. He has proven that throughout the first two weeks of the season, especially with his big-time performance against the Patriots.

Wilson has completed a stunning 82.5 percent of his passes this season for 610 yards, nine touchdowns, and just one pick. He has also recorded 68 yards on the ground. At this point in time, Wilson leads all NFL quarterbacks in passing touchdowns by three.

His MVP candidacy is obvious and Wilson looks to have a good chance if he continues on the pace he has set so far. Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson are obvious candidates as well, but Wilson has outplayed them so far. Wilson for MVP is something to keep a close eye on in the coming weeks.

1. Both The Seahawks And Patriots Are Super Bowl Contenders

This is without a question the boldest reaction to a Week 2 game that we could have. However, both of these teams have proven that they are deserving of the recognition.

For New England, the Patriots have shown that they don't need Brady to be a contender. Cam Newton is playing at an elite level and their defense has performed above expectations with the key players who chose to opt-out of the season. They have the potential and talent to compete with teams like the Chiefs and Ravens.

Seattle has arguably the best quarterback in the NFL this season, a solid running game, a dynamic wide receiver room, and a much-improved defense. Jamal Adams has been a key addition and has provided the Seahawks with the necessary playmaking in the secondary. Teams like the Green Bay Packers, San Francisco 49ers, Dallas Cowboys, and New Orleans Saints will have something to say about this, but the Seahawks can match up with any of those teams.

Both of these teams are elite NFL teams this season and it will be intriguing to watch over the next few weeks as they look to gain that recognition from everyone around them.
