The Buffalo Bills avenged last season's playoff loss to the Kansas City Chiefs with a huge 38-20 victory in Week 5. With their recent performance, head coach Sean McDermott and his squad showed that they are a force to be reckoned with, especially in the AFC.
Though it was an impressive win, the Bills will still have to work on their mistakes and cut back on their errors in order to take their game to the next level. After defeating the Chiefs, they will now aim for their fifth win of the season when they visit the Tennessee Titans in Week 6 proceedings.
Here are three takeaways from Buffalo's Week 5 win over the Chiefs:
3. Rookie pass-rusher Greg Rousseau is having a major impact on the Bills' defense.
The Bills definitely got a gem when a talented prospect in Greg Rousseau landed on their laps at the end of the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He was already having a great season but he further proved his talent after he came out with a huge outing against the Chiefs.
Rousseau was locked in as he recorded four total tackles, a sack, and an interception on Sunday night. His presence definitely hindered Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs from gaining any momentum and prevented them from getting back into the game. Rousseau, along with safety Micah Hyde, is expected to play vital roles for the defense moving forward. If the rookie manages to sustain his great performance in their coming games then it won't be a surprise to see him end up as a Pro Bowler by the end of the season.
2. Dawson Knox and the rest of the receiving unit have shown that they can deal great damage on the field.
In 2020, Bills tight end Dawson Knox received criticism due to his many dropped passes all season long. However, that isn't the issue anymore as the 24-year-old has already worked on catching the ball as proven by his improved performance this season.
Against the Chiefs, Knox was a threat on the offensive end and exceeded 100 receiving yards in a single game for the first time in his career. He ended the night with 117 yards on three catches along with a touchdown for the Bills.
Not only Knox, but also their other weapons in Stefon Diggs, Zack Moss, and Emmanuel Sanders all went to work and contributed to the Bills' winning cause. Buffalo's offensive attack will surely be hard to stop, especially if all of them will get to play at a high level on a consistent basis moving forward.
1. Good plays on both ends allowed the Bills to grab a dominant win over the Chiefs.
Through the first few games of the season, the Bills have been ranked as one of the top teams in takeaways and their lockdown defense was evident in their tilt against the Chiefs. Both Hyde and Rousseau recorded an interception of their own while Taron Johnson and Tre'Davious White made life hard for the Chiefs' receiving unit.
Due to their sticky defense, Mahomes didn't have many opportunities to connect with his weapons in Travis Kelce, Tyreek Hill, and Mecole Hardman. On the other end of the field, the Bills' offense also took care of the ball as Josh Allen didn't tally an interception all game long.
His passing game was also on point as he threw for 315 yards on 15-of-26 attempts to go with three touchdowns for the Bills. Their ability to contain their opponents and capitalize on their opportunities certainly allowed the team to earn a dominant 38-20 win over the Chiefs.
With a 4-1 record, the Bills are currently on the right track and are looking to grab another victory in Week 6 to further extend their four-game winning streak.
