Shocking news shook the NFL today as Russell Wilson was traded from the Seattle Seahawks to the Denver Broncos. This news came after Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers announced his pending return.
Denver was likely waiting for Rodgers to formally announce his decision, as they quickly pounced on a Wilson deal soon after. While it cost a lot to acquire him, they have become a contender in the AFC. Some might even argue that Seattle won this particular trade, but that grading is for another time.
The Broncos are in a highly competitive division with the AFC West. The Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Chargers, and Las Vegas Raiders will all be competitive teams, making it perhaps the best division in football.
Wilson makes Denver a threat to win the division title. With that said, here are three bold predictions for Russell Wilson with the Broncos in 2022 after Seahawks trade.
3. Broncos have top 10 offense
The offense for Denver has been a weakness since Peyton Manning retired. They have the pieces in place to be an elite unit but were lacking a quarterback to take the reins. Trading for Wilson fills this hole with one of the best quarterbacks in the game.
He will have great talent around him with Javonte Williams at running back and a receiving group of Jerry Jeudy, Courtland Sutton, Tim Patrick, and K.J. Hamler.
These weapons will allow Russ to cook and lead to Denver having one of the best offenses in the league.
2. Wilson throws 40 touchdowns
Wilson did not have a great season last year, but he did miss time due to injury. However, the season prior, Wilson threw for 4,212 yards along with 40 touchdowns and 13 interceptions.
The nine-time Pro Bowl quarterback has proven to be among the best passers in the NFL. He is one of, if not the, best deep-ball thrower in the NFL. With elite weapons at his disposal, Wilson should have a bounce-back season. Wilson is also a mobile quarterback, which leads to him creating plays out of nothing.
Wilson can scramble outside the pocket to find a receiver downfield, and defenses are drawn to the threat of him taking off.
With all this considered, Wilson should have a resurgent campaign with his new team.
1. Broncos make the postseason for first time since Peyton Manning retired
The Broncos have not made it to the playoffs since Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning retired. In his last season with the team, they won the Super Bowl but have not found a suitable replacement at quarterback. They finally have their guy in Wilson, who will instantly get them back into contention.
Wilson is not only a great quarterback but has playoff experience. He was triumphant in Super Bowl XLVIII over Manning and the Denver Broncos, 43-8. Wilson will now be on the other side and try to notch his first Super Bowl appearance since the 2014-15 season.
Denver is set up for a successful season as they have a great defense surrounded with weapons for Wilson on offense. The Broncos also hired Green Bay Packers Offensive Coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, who is a bright offensive mind. Wilson has spent his entire career playing for a defensive-minded coach in Pete Carroll, which could have been limiting him. Hackett could unlock even more from Wilson and help Denver unleash a lethal offense.
The Broncos gave up a ton to get Wilson, but they are now a contender in the stacked AFC. While they won't be the favorite, the Broncos will be tough to take down with Wilson at the helm.
