The Dallas Cowboys scored a thrilling 35-29 victory over the New England Patriots in overtime. They have started the season hot with a record of 5-1, with their only loss being in week one to the defending champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Dak Prescott has looked great following a horrific season-ending injury last season and is an MVP candidate.

While the Cowboys are often projected to be good and come up short, this season could be the year they make something happen. The offense has been great as expected, but the real key has been the defense's ability to create turnovers.

With that said, here are three Cowboys takeaways from their wild week six win over the Patriots.

3. Dak Prescott is worth the contract

After over a year of contract disputes, the Cowboys signed Dak Prescott to a four-year $160 million deal (Spotrac), which many called an overpay at the time. With an MVP campaign thus far, Prescott is living up to the contract he was given.

So far this season, Prescott has thrown for 1,813 yards along with 16 touchdowns and only four interceptions. He has also completed a high percentage of his passes at 73.1 percent (Pro Football Reference). His high level of production has helped the Cowboys' offense be difficult to stop.

They have talented players on every level of the offense, including two elite wide receivers in Amari Cooper and CeeDee Lamb. The Cowboys also have one of the league's best running backs in Ezekiel Elliot. All these elements to the offense with a good quarterback under center is a nightmare for defenses to stop. The Patriots won their share of battles but couldn't do enough to win against this formidable collection of weapons.

Look for Prescott to continue leading the offense to success and prove he was worth the contract.

2. The defense is good

Over the past few seasons, the defense has been the big problem for the Cowboys. Trevon Diggs has made a name for himself in the Cowboys' secondary, as he constantly picks off quarterbacks. He has put himself in the Defensive Player of the Year conversation with his elite play.

So far this season, seven interceptions with at least one in every game (Pro Football Reference). Diggs also has two touchdowns on the year, showcasing his playmaking ability on defense. With Diggs and the Cowboys' defense playing at a high level, the Cowboys will be a threat to any team.
