3 free agents Dodgers must sign in 2021 MLB Free Agency

Max Scherzer, Dodgers, NL Wild Card Game, Max Scherzer drunk and shirtless

There’s not much the Los Angeles Dodgers need to do in the off-season. When you have a team of Mookie Betts, Cody Bellinger, Julio Urias, Walker Buehler, and others, it’s tough to make additions that will help your team. At the end of the day, the best can always get better and that’s certainly what the Dodgers will look to do this offseason.

They do have a few guys who could potentially not be on their team next year. Corey Seager, Chris Taylor, and Clayton Kershaw amongst others could be gone. This could mean that the Dodgers go out and spend. Anybody who’s familiar with baseball knows that the Dodgers front office is the last team that’s afraid to spend money to help their team win. Let’s take a look at three guys the Dodgers should target this off-season.

3 Players The Dodgers Should Target in Free Agency

Kris Bryant

Kris Bryant could be an interesting pick-up for the Dodgers. He is an elite third baseman and with the potential loss of Seager, he could be the right fit. He’s already used to the bright lights in Chicago so moving over to Los Angeles wouldn’t be too much to ask.

Adding Bryant would be adding another championship player. Bryant is already a World Series winner with the Cubs. He played for the San Francisco Giants when he was traded, so he’s used to the West Coast. On top of that, Bryant is one of the best free agents that the Dodgers could sign this offseason. Bryant is a career .278/.376/.880 hitter. He has hit 167 home runs and has a career WAR of 28.7.

The Dodgers have shown in the past that they have an elite-level offense. The best part of their team is the elite pitching staff. Although the Dodgers have an elite-level offense, they did struggle at times. Bringing Bryant in will definitely help that. He’s the type of player who can come in and change the organization and get them back to another World Series. Factor in that they are losing Corey Seager and potentially Chris Taylor, this signing makes a lot of sense.

Starling Marte

With the potential loss of Chris Taylor, Marte would be a perfect fit. Starling Marte has shown that he is one of the best center fielders in baseball. He’s an elite hitter who is also elite defensively in center field. Chris Taylor isn’t somebody who’s easily replaceable, but Starling Marte would definitely have an edge over him.

Marte last season hit .310 and led the league in stolen bases with 47. He would fit in perfectly with this Dodgers team. They are an elite-level team that has advanced hitters and also has guys who could steal bases all over. Marte features arguably the most elite approach in baseball. He has an elite-level eye and knows how to foul pictures off until he gets the pitch that he wants to hit. Any team could use somebody like this, but the Dodgers would definitely benefit from him come playoff time. Adding somebody who hit .310 and stole 47 bases will definitely help out an offense that underperformed at times last season.

Max Scherzer

Max Scherzer was already with the team last year but when you have somebody like this you can’t let him walk. Not only did he finish with a 7-0 record for the Dodgers last season, but what he brings outside of him being on the mound is something that can’t be replicated. He’s a fierce competitor who any ball club wants in their clubhouse. Adding that he finished with a 1.98 era and had 89 strikeouts to only eight walks, there’s no reason that the Dodgers shouldn’t spend to keep him.

The Dodgers have an elite pitching staff with him, Walker Buehler, potentially Clayton Kershaw returning, and a 20-win winner in Julio Urias. They might not look to add Scherzer because they will have Dustin May coming back next season. Dustin May is still young and Scherzer has proven time and time again that he’s a top-three pitcher in baseball.

These would all be incredible additions for the Dodgers and would make them World Series favorites coming into a year once again. At the end of the day, they can have all these players but if their offense continues to struggle in the postseason at times, it won’t matter.

They have the talent to win the next five World Series and then some. At this point, it’s all up to the Dodgers to perform the way that everybody knows they can. Expect them to make some big moves this offseason because they are losing some key pieces.
