The Houston Texans are the newest team in the NFL, having started their franchise's history in 2002. Therefore, it's a bit understandable that the Texans are among the short list of teams that haven't won a Super Bowl yet.

Despite not winning a Super Bowl, Houston has put together some talented rosters — especially in recent years. But for the most part, the Texans have been trying to manufacture a winning formula, falling short more often than not.

Over the course of their first 18 seasons in the NFL, Houston made the playoffs just six times and played in 10 games. In those six postseason appearances, the Texans have compiled a 4-6 record.

Nevertheless, Houston has seen a significant increase in its success in recent years. Given that, this as good a time as any to highlight the three greatest teams in the Texans' history thus far.

2018

When the Texans selected Deshaun Watson with the No. 12 pick in the 2017 NFL Draft there was a newfound hope in Houston. As a rookie, Watson was able to throw for 1,699 yards, 19 touchdowns and eight interceptions in just six starts.

Sadly, the Clemson product would suffer a knee injury that would sideline him for the rest of the season. However, in his second season in the NFL, Watson would come back even stronger than he was before.

In his second year with the Texans, Watson led the team to a 11-5 record, but lost in the Wild Card round. Even with that disappointment, the roster comprised of Watson, Lamar Miller, DeAndre Hopkins, and J.J. Watt was remarkable to watch. Even though the 2017 season didn't go as planned, the 2018 team showed what Watson and company could be capable of in the future.

2012

Before Watson was under center, the last quarterback to start for more than two years for the Texans was Matt Schaub. Despite Schaub's issues in certain areas of his game, at his peak, he put together three 4,000-yard/20-touchdown seasons in a span of four years.

In his second-to-last year with the Texans in 2012, Schaub was able to aid Houston into securing a franchise-best 12-4 record. Besides Schaub, the 2012 team would feature Arian Foster, Andre Johnson and Watt.

For the second straight season, the Texans were able to advance to the AFC Divisional round. But for the second consecutive season, Houston was unable to make an appearance in the Conference Championship. Still, the team that the Texans fielded in 2012 is one of the best groups that Houston has had in their short history.

2019

There's definitely an argument to be had for the previous two teams on this list to be considered as the No. 1 team in Texans' history. However, the 2019 team that played just a season ago, were on track to finally advance to the AFC Championship game.

With Watson continuing to evolve as a quarterback, he was flashing even more upside for his future potential. Even with Miller being out for the season, Watson and Hopkins kept Houston's offense firing on all cylinders. Not to mention, Carlos Hyde recorded 1,070 rushing yards in Miller's absence.

On defense, Watt was playing at a high level before getting injured and upon his return, he made his presence felt in the postseason. In light of that, the Texans found themselves making the playoffs for the fourth time in five years.

After taking care of business against the Buffalo Bills in the Wild Card round, Houston had a date with the Kansas City Chiefs. At the beginning of the matchup, everything was bouncing the Texans' way.

Early in the second quarter, Houston held a 24-0 lead, only to watch it wither away, losing the game by the score of 51-31. Despite the team's inability to maintain a lead over the now-reigning Super Bowl champions, the 2019 Texans should be considered the franchise's best team to date.
