It is no surprise that the Jets are one of the worst franchises in the NFL. They have not made the playoffs in over a decade and continue to be a laughing stock in the league. It all begins at the top with owners Woody and Christopher Johnson. It continues down to their poor head coaching selections and finishes off with their lack of success at quarterback.

Adam Gase is not the answer as the team's current coach. New York is hoping that general manager Joe Douglas could build a team that Sam Darnold could be successful with. This woudl help the Jets return to some of the good days of the franchise, of which there are very few.

It is important to remember the good times through all the losing seasons, failed signings and draft pick busts. Here are the three greatest teams in New York Jets’ history.

3. 1998

Bill Parcells had the Jets rolling in 1998. They had a top-five offense in the game on the shoulders of Pro Bowlers Vinny Testaverde, Curtis Martin and Keyshawn Johnson.

New York finished 12-4 and won the AFC East for the first time since 1968. They rolled in their first playoff game with a double-digit victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars. They went on to play John Elway and the Denver Broncos in the AFC Championship. A one-yard touchdown run by Curtis Martin in the third quarter gave New York a 10-0 lead in the third quarter.

Denver’s offense was jumpstarted on the very next drive thanks to a 47-yard hookup between Elway and Ed McCaffrey. The Broncos would go on to score 23 unanswered points and end the Jets’ magical season.

2. 2010

This season was the last time the Jets reached the postseason. There have not been many times where New York can arguably be considered the best team in football, but 2010 was one of those times.

The Jets thought they had the next great coach and quarterback combination of Rex Ryan and Mark Sanchez. They won 11 games on the season, but still had to get into the playoffs courtesy of the Wild Card. This means that road games were ahead in the playoffs, beginning in Indianapolis against Peyton Manning and the Colts. The Jets stole this game, 17-16, on a last-second field goal.

This setup what turned out to be one of the most satisfying wins in franchise history. New York traveled to Foxborough to take on the rival New England Patriots and took them down, 28-21. The season would end with a second-straight AFC Championship Game appearance.

In the Conference Championship, he Jets fell behind the Pittsburgh Steelers 24-0 at halftime. They gave their best effort at a comeback, scoring 19 unanswered points in the second half, but ultimately ran out of time. To this day, this is the last great Jets team.

1. 1968

The best team in Jets’ history has to be the one that won the franchise’s only Super Bowl.

Coach Weeb Ewbank led the Jets to their second-straight winning season. They set a then franchise-record with 11 wins and made the playoffs for the first time in franchise history. Quarterback Joe Namath was named MVP of the league and led the Jets to a win in the AFL Championship.

New York earned a spot in Super Bowl III against the Baltimore Colts. On the back of Namath and Jim Turner, who kicked three field goals, the Jets took home a 16-7 victory. Namath was named Super Bowl MVP after throwing for 206 yards.

This is still the Jets' only championship in franchise history. After winning a Super Bowl in their first-ever postseason appearance, the franchise did not expect to be waiting 52 years to win another.
