The San Antonio Spurs could be heading into a different situation in the next few months.

There are many rumors that Coach Gregg Popovich is not going to return as a head coach in the NBA and that's certainly going to hurt this franchise because he is arguably the greatest coach of all time and he has been in San Antonio for so long.

There have also been some questionable rumors that Dejounte Murray could be on the move, but that would not be in the best interest of this organization. Trading Murray would be one of many mistakes that the Spurs could make and a mistake that they need to avoid.

In order for the Spurs to continue building their team and getting back to being championship contenders, they need to avoid some serious mistakes that could be made.

Let's take a look at three areas the Spurs must avoid if they want to eventually win an NBA title one day again.

Spurs Must Avoids 2022

3. Keep Dejounte Murray

There have been many rumors that the San Antonio Spurs are going to think about getting rid of Dejounte Murray for somebody like Ben Simmons.

If San Antonio did decide to do this, they would really be hurting their organization now and in the future. Murray is essentially everything that an NBA player should be and he's perfect under Head Coach Gregg Popovich. He has obviously learned a lot from Popovich. They also need to factor in that he is still only 25 years old and even if they are in a rebuilding process now, he's going to help speed that process up and be a big part of this team's future.

On the season he is averaging 18.4 points per game, 8.2 rebounds, and 8.9 assists. He is everything that an NBA player should be as he does everything on the court. He's one of the best players in the NBA and there is even a good chance that he will be an All-Star this year.

Trading him for anything would be a horrible decision for the Spurs. Unless they are going to get back a proven superstar, the Spurs Organization needs to not do a trade.

2. Many trade assets, must get back what they are worth

The Spurs are going to have some very interesting trade targets when the NBA trade deadline does come around. They aren't usually a team that makes a lot of moves at the deadline but this could be a different year because there if Gregg Popovich is going to be leaving after this year, the team will be headed into a different future.

Since they aren't in a situation to compete at the moment, it could be in their best interest to decide to get rid of a few of their guys and head towards a different route. If they can get back some draft picks and some other players for some of their role players, it would make a lot of sense.

The Spurs are probably going to trade Thaddeus Young and potentially Bryn Forbes to a contending team. This is a great idea for both of them because many contending teams are going to want some me like Young because he can defend at a high level and that is something every team that is going to be in the playoffs is always looking for.

Somebody like Bryn Forbes is certainly going to get back a decent return for this Spurs team because as many saw last year while he was on the Milwaukee Bucks, who won the NBA title, he can hit the three-point shot at a very high rate and help change a series. Last year against the Miami Heat, Forbes was one of these reasons why the Bucks were able to sweep that Heat team as he even outscored the Heat star player, Jimmy Butler.

1. Enjoy the last year with Gregg Popovich

If the rumors are true and Coach Gregg Popovich is going to retire, everybody in San Antonio has to enjoy his final year here. Although they are not going to win an NBA championship this year, or it seems very unlikely at the moment, he's done so much for that organization and has brought many championships to them and everything that he does there needs to be embraced.

Although somebody retiring is not anything that a team can avoid, they must enjoy the moments that they are having with him for the last part of his career and just enjoy all the time spent with him.
