The Carolina Panthers had a disappointing 2019 season and a big reason was their quarterback play. Cam Newton went out early in the season and they couldn't find a solution to replace him. There has already been big changes made this offseason with the team bringing in Matt Rhule to lead the troops. That can't be the only need this offseason though. This is a team that is close to competing again with just a few changes.

Let's break down three moves the Panthers need to make the next few months.

Sign Tre Boston to a long term deal

The team has been reluctant to give Tre Boston a long term deal. But this is the offseason they need to do it. He was one of the better players on the Panthers last season and has earned every penny of an extension.

With Luke Kuechly shocking everyone with his retirement, the team can't afford to lose many key players. During the 2019 season, Boston started all 16 games racking up 121 tackles with one being a tackle for a loss.

He also intercepted three passes. If the Panthers let him walk they are going to have to find someone in free agency.

Find a second running back

Christian McCaffrey is a special talent, but at some point, the team needs to start spreading out the production from the backfield. Kyle Allen was the team's second-leading rusher followed by wide receiver Curtis Samuel.

The next leading rusher that was a true running back was Reggie Bonnafon, who carried the ball 16 times for 116 yards and a touchdown.

They need to find a back that can carry the ball five or six times a game to take some of the load off McCaffrey.

They need to find their long term solution at quarterback and stick with it

The Panthers have many options for which they go with their quarterback, but whichever way they go, they must stick with it long term. Cam Newton still has one year left on his contract and if he is healthy, that could be a great way to go.

The team could also use a draft pick or try to sign a guy like Marcus Mariota in free agency. The one thing the team shouldn't do is go after a short-term fix rather than a long-term solution.

Tom Brady and Phillip Rivers might be tempting, but they aren't the right answer for the team.
