The Utah Jazz were in fourth place in the Western Conference standings in the 2019-20 season. They were well on their way to the playoffs and appeared poised for a deep postseason run.

Unfortunately, COVID-19 happened. Rudy Gobert tested positive for the virus and NBA commissioner Adam Silver suspended the season immediately.

The Jazz had a stellar record of 41-23 before play was halted. Donovan Mitchell, who also contracted the virus, made his first All-Star team this season with Gobert. The high-flyer was averaging 24.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 4.2 assists while shooting 45.3 percent from the field, 36.4 percent from beyond the arc, and 85.9 percent from the free-throw line.

Gobert, meanwhile, was putting up 15.1 points, 13.7 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks. The reigning two-time Defensive Player of the Year was also shooting an efficient 69.8 percent from the floor, thanks to Mitchell's penetration and passing skills.

On the other hand, Mike Conley and Bojan Bogdanovic — the Jazz's two big offseason acquisitions — have been pretty solid in their first season with the team. While Conley struggled to begin his career in Salt Lake City, he has since been able to adjust and contribute as Utah rose in the standings in the wild West.

Of course, as expected with any Jazz team, the club is always going to be elite on defense as long as Quin Snyder is the head coach. Utah was giving up only 107.9 points per game, which was the ninth-best defense in the NBA.

Owners and fans are hopeful the 2019-20 season can resume in the summer. If it doesn't, though, Utah will have some key decisions to make to ensure the team remains a powerhouse in the West.

3. Re-sign Jordan Clarkson

The Jazz acquired Clarkson from the Cleveland Cavaliers in December. He's the perfect microwave scorer for this team off the bench and Utah would be wise to re-sign the guard when he hits unrestricted free agency this offseason.

Clarkson averaged 15.6 points in 34 games with the Jazz following his trade from Cleveland. He shot 48.2 percent overall and 36.6 percent from beyond the arc.

This season, Clarkson was making $13.4 million. He'll probably command that same salary in free agency.

2. Sign Donovan Mitchell to max contract extension

Mitchell is eligible to sign a max contract extension this offseason with Utah.

According to Tony Jones of The Athletic, it’s likely Mitchell will wind up signing a five-year max extension of his rookie contract, putting him under team control for a while.

Donovan has been spectacular since getting drafted by the Jazz in 2017. He's averaging 22.7 points in 219 games with the franchise and has led Utah to the postseason each year he's been with the team.

If Mitchell is a surefire lock to stay in Salt Lake City, it will be a huge sigh of relief for Jazz fans. They have endured a lot since the season was put to a halt.

1. Trade Rudy Gobert if relationship with Mitchell isn't salvageable

The Jazz are hoping Mitchell and Gobert will be able to co-exist whenever sports are resumed. Multiple reports have said Mitchell is upset at Gobert for how the center acted before his positive coronavirus test. The Frenchman was reportedly touching a lot of players' belongings in the locker room.

Of course, Gobert's biggest blunder was when he jokingly touched reporters' mics after a press conference.

The Jazz will have to trade Gobert if Mitchell doesn't want to play with him anymore. Utah, though, is still holding out hope that they won't have to part ways with arguably the best defensive big man in the game.
