Twenty-three years. Twenty-three years is how long it's been since the Buffalo Bills have a playoff win to their name. Last year, was just another disappointing season in the long line of them in their recent history.

In 2018, Buffalo ended the year with a 6-10 record and were third place in the AFC East. Only the New York Jets were worse but that isn't much of a consolation prize.

Since the year 2000, the Bills haven't had a season where they can say they won more than nine games. Nonetheless, the Bills may have a glimmer of hope with Josh Allen under center.

By no means did Allen have a phenomenal rookie season in 2018 but there's no denying the arm-talent he possesses. Allen had just 2,074 yards, 10 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions but the offense lacked an arsenal of weapons around him.

This year, Allen now has John Brown, Cole Beasley, Zay Jones, and Robert Foster to throw to. Not to mention a loaded backfield with a multitude of skill-sets. The 2019 season is one where the Bills hope they can take a step in the right direction.

Although, the start of that journey begins with training camp in a couple of weeks. Here are three players who have the most to gain during training camp for the Bills this year.

3. Dawson Knox

The Bills are in need of guys to step up and be playmakers in the offense to help Allen under center. One guy who could earn his way into a starting position is Dawson Knox.

This offseason, the Bills drafted Knox with the 96th overall pick in the draft out of Ole Miss. In college, Knox was seldom used in the passing attack but at 6-foot-4, 255 pounds, Knox has the potential to be a versatile threat in the offense.

Currently, Tyler Kroft will likely begin training camp as the starter at tight end. With an impressive showing at training camp, Knox could impress enough to earn his way into the lineup.

The rookie tight end could end up being a go-to target in the red zone but will need to get acclimated to the Bills offense before any of that is possible.

2. Shaq Lawson

One of the weakest areas for the Bills last season was their pass rush. Buffalo ranked 26th in sacks with 36 of them during 2018. At least they didn't have just 13 sacks like the Oakland Raiders, right?

Nevertheless, the Bills are hoping to see an uptick in the sacks department in 2019. One player who can help with that is Shaq Lawson.

Lawson was the Bills' first-round selection in the 2016 NFL Draft but has yet to live up to the hype surrounding the former Clemson Tiger. In three seasons, Lawson has just 10 sacks, four forced fumbles, and 20 hits on the quarterback.

When training camps begin, Trent Taylor will likely begin as the starter on the opposite side of Jerry Hughes. It's up to Lawson to work hard during training camp to impress the coaching staff enough to where they can't refuse to keep him out of the starting lineup.

1. Devin Singletary

For the time being, the Bills have an overcrowded backfield with a few candidates to start in Week 1. LeSean McCoy is expected to return as the starter but Frank Gore, Devin Singletary, and T.J. Yeldon may have something to say about it.

At 36-years old, it's unlikely that Gore has a huge role in the offense. Although, the veteran running back looks like he is in phenomenal shape and could play until he is 50-years old.

The Bills also drafted Singletary in the third round out of Florida Atlantic where he scored 66 rushing touchdowns. Although, guys with the speed/size combo of Singletary rarely make it in the NFL.

With that being said, the rookie running back has gotten some work with the first-teamers during OTAs and minicamps. The majority of the snaps have gone to McCoy but it is telling that Singletary has also seen some time with the starters.

The rookie could launch himself up the depth chart if he continues to impress during training camp for the Bills.
