AJ Brown is the answer to an important question: How do the Indianapolis Colts take the next step?

The Colts are back. After a 1-5 start in 2018, Indianapolis won nine of its last 10 games to finish 10-6. The Colts picked up a playoff win in Houston before losing to the Chiefs. The Colts sported a much improved defense along with their offense led by Andrew Luck. Heading into the draft, there is no feeling on where the Colts will go with their pick. One thing has been said and that is that the Colts will draft the best available player.

There is one wide receiver prospect that could be sitting there when Indianapolis is on the clock. That is AJ Brown from Ole Miss. For Brown, this would be an ideal situation to play for a contending team with a franchise quarterback. For the Colts, they could decide to go another way, however Brown might be the best fit for them.

1. Slot Receiver

The book on A.J. Brown says that he will be the perfect slot receiver at the next level. He is a dependable receiver who can make catches in traffic. Brown has the reputation of being an exceptional route runner. This is what the Colts need. They added Devin Funchess to go along with T.Y. Hilton on the outside. They could use a strong slot receiver to add to Luck's toy chest.

The knock on Brown is that he is not a speedster. He ran a 4.49 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine. There has been some concern that Brown will not be able to gain separation from NFL corners. The Colts will not have to worry about that with him in the slot. He will be needed to go over the middle and make tough catches.

2. Plenty Of Veterans To Learn From

In this situation, Brown would not be joining a team where he is expected to be a team's number one option. The Colts added Funchess to be the team's number two man. Brown would be added to a team with mentors who could help him become a smarter receiver. Hilton has had 1,000 yards receiving in five of the last six seasons in Indianapolis. He would take a lot of pressure off the first-year pass catcher.

AJ Brown would also be catching passes from Luck. Who better to have as your first quarterback? If Brown is sitting there when the Colts pick, this might be a match made in heaven.

3. Colts Might Not Have A Choice

The perfect player might fall into a team's lap. A.J. Brown is viewed as the number three wide receiver prospect in the draft behind D.K. Metcalf and Marquise Brown. The two men in front of Brown will most likely be off the board before the Colts pick. This leaves Brown as the only option if Indianapolis decides to go with a receiver in the first round. The Colts have said they will take the best player available. There is a high chance that could be Brown.

Adding up all of these factors means that AJ Brown could end up catching passes in a Colts uniform in 2019. He would be an important third option for a team that is trying to contend for championships. On draft night, be sure to look out for the possibility that the Colts might take Brown.
