Zion Williamson, Ja Morant, R.J. Barrett, and Darius Garland? If Phoenix Suns fans have not heard this name before, it is because Garland appeared in just five games for Vanderbilt during his freshman season. Yes, Vanderbilt. The same team that finished 9-23 with an 0-18 record in SEC play.

Garland's season was cut short due to a meniscus injury. During his time in a Commodore uniform, Garland was extremely impressive.

Garland played the first five games of the season. His production was impressive. The 6'2 point guard averaged 16.2 points per game and shot 53.7% from the field. This included a 33-point outing against Liberty where he finished 12-18 from the floor. Garland was 11-23 from beyond the arc. This was all Garland needed to do as he was a sure-fire one-and-done player.

With the top three picks all but etched in, attention is turned to players like Jarrett Culver, De'Andre Hunter and yes, Garland.

There are rumors of the Lakers liking Garland at No. 4, however, the Suns might be the ideal landing spot.

3. Desperate Need for a Point Guard

Deandre Ayton, Suns

There might not be a team that needs a point guard more than the Suns.

The Suns were one of three teams with a 14% chance at landing the top overall pick in the upcoming draft. Phoenix had to be hoping to land in the top two with a chance to draft Morant. With that dream gone, they might have turned their sights to Garland.

The point guard list for the Suns in 2018-2019 was short. Tyler Johnson, Elie Okobo, and De'Anthony Melton were the three players listed as point guards. In today's NBA, teams need a point guard to win.

Phoenix needs a point guard to pair in the backcourt with Devin Booker. Adding Deandre Ayton and Mikal Bridges gave the Suns some promising young talent.

Garland could be the icing on the cake for this Suns' rebuild.

2. All-Around Skillset

Darius Garland

This bullet point might seem broad, however, Garland is the real deal.

Despite playing just five collegiate games, Garland is ready to make the jump to the professional game. His ability at point guard has been questioned because of his decision making. This should not shy teams away because his raw ability to play the game is undeniable.

Garland is a quick guard who can handle the ball effortlessly. His claim to fame will be his ability to shoot from deep. Garland has in the gym range. He can knock down shots from 30 or more feet. Garland is a player who scores in bunches.

At 19 years old, his consistency will improve, however, he is ready to score the ball in the NBA.

1. Pressure off Booker

Devin Booker
CP

Booker has turned into one of the best young scorers in the game. He already has a 70-point game under his belt. Booker is a player that can torment an opposing defense.

The only problem is that he is on an abysmal team. The former Kentucky Wildcat is asked to do a lot for Phoenix. He has to act as the primary ball handler and playmaker while guarding the other team's best player.

The Suns better hope that Garland falls to No. 6 to take some pressure off Booker. Garland is a point guard who can act as the team's main ball handler. This allows Booker to rest and get himself in position to score.

Garland will be responsible for getting him the ball in position. These two electric players can turn into a strong backcourt in Phoenix which the team has not seen since the Steve Nash days.

There is no guarantee that Garland will fall to the Suns, however, if he does, he may not fall past them.
