It was a bad year to be a Green Bay Packers receiver not named Davante Adams in 2019. Even with the mediocre unit, the Packers managed to finish the season 13-3 and in the NFC Championship Game. They hold the 30th pick in the 2020 NFL Draft and it is looking like they will use it on upgrading the receiver position.

ESPN's Todd McShay released his most recent mock draft and had Green Bay selecting Penn State star K.J. Hamler with the No. 30 selection. This pick would make a lot of sense for Green Bay. Here are three reasons why they could be a match with Hamler.

3. Allows GB to part ways with players

The Packers showed off some young receivers last season such as Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Geronimo Allison, and Allen Lazard. None of the three made an appealing case to remain on the team next season. Some will have to be, but drafting Hamler would allow the Packers to trade a receiver.

Valdes-Scantling is a name that has been thought of as a trade piece. He is just 26 years old and has been in the league for two years now. There are plenty of teams that could trade a late-round pick for a young receiver. For Green Bay, they need to take advantage of this extremely deep wide receiver class.

2. Hamler would open up the offense

The Packers' offense was not overwhelming last season. They ranked near the middle of the league in points per game and total yards per game. Adding a player with Hamler's skill set would give head coach Matt LaFleur some new wrinkles.

Hamler is a burner. His speed could add a lot to the offense such as screen and jet sweep plays. This would allow the Packers to add more motion and trickery into their scheme. Green Bay was held to 24 points or less 10 times in 2019. Hamler could make that number go up immediately.

1. Speed

This one word is the main reason to draft Hamler. He finished with 56 catches for 904 yards and eight touchdowns at Penn State last season. He did not work out at the combine, but he is a 4.3 guy at least. The Packers do not have this type of speed.

Could you imagine a receiving corps of Adams and Hamler either on the opposite side or in the slot? That would open up a ton for Rodgers. There will be other receivers on the board at No. 30, but Hamler makes sense. Green Bay already has a do-it-all receiver in Adams. Now it is time to go get the speedster.
