After taking a year off from coaching, McCarthy has made it clear that he wanted to return to the sidelines this year if the right situation came up. Carolina would be an exact situation that McCarthy would love to be put in. Granted, the quarterback situation for the Panthers is a bit of a question mark, but they have a talented roster for their next head coach to work with.
Throughout his career, McCarthy has been known as an offensive guru. The Panthers are looking to bring in an offensive-minded head coach after years of a defensive coach in Ron Rivera.

Let's start this point off by noting the fact that McCarthy and Aaron Rodgers did not have a great relationship towards the end of their tenure together. However, McCarthy and Rodgers worked very well together for the majority of his time with the Packers.
Carolina's quarterback situation is murky with Cam Newton's status and both Kyle Allen and Will Grier on the roster. McCarthy can come in and help groom a young quarterback or help turn Newton back around. His previous work with quarterbacks will go a long way in Carolina.

There is no doubt that things got stale in Green Bay with McCarthy running things. He failed to update his system as time went by and opponents started figuring the Green Bay offense out. With a year off and time to watch the game and tweak his system, McCarthy should come back with some new ideas.
Having a veteran presence on the sideline will be key for the Panthers. They have a roster capable of competing right away if they get the quarterback situation figured out. McCarthy will be able come in and set the tone immediately for a new culture.

McCarthy has a 125-77-2 career record as a head coach. He has also won a Super Bowl and led the Packers to the playoffs in nine of his 13 seasons. Carolina would be getting a proven winner and someone who can immediately demand a winning attitude from every single player on the roster.
