The New York Giants are heading into one of the biggest off-seasons in franchise history. Not only do they not have a general manager (GM), but their quarterback situation with Daniel Jones seems murky and they are also without a head coach. While the Giants say that they will be hiring a GM before they hire the head coach–and rightfully so–they still must at least send out “feelers” to coaches that they think might be interested.

Mainly because, if they wait, then the majority of the leading head coaching candidates might be signed with other teams by the time New York's GM search is done. So. with that being said, here are three reasons that the Giants need to sign Jim Harbaugh as their next head coach, regardless of who they sign to be the general manager.

3 Reasons the Giants Need to Sign Jim Harbaugh

3. He's the best available head coach with Super Bowl experience

As one of four available head coaches with Super Bowl experience, along with Doug Pederson, Dan Quinn, and Jim Caldwell, Harbaugh finds himself in the elite territory of all “re-tread” head coaches. He has a step up on all three of the other coaches on the list because he has successfully been a head coach at the University of Michigan since he was let go by the San Francisco 49ers.

All of the other three coaches have yet to receive a second chance (or third in Caldwell's case) at a head coaching job. Harbaugh had a very unceremonious ending to his time in San Francisco and if he would have stayed there they would most likely have a championship instead of the five-year rebuild they had before Kyle Shanahan finally got them to the Super Bowl. He deserves a second chance as much if not more than any football coach in the world.

2. He is the most well-prepared for the extra media scrutiny in New York

Harbaugh has been through it all as a coach. He has dealt with the media attention paid to the two matchups vs his brother, one on Thanksgiving over ten years ago and one in the Super Bowl. While Jim was not able to beat his brother John in the big game, he handled the pressure by the media like a champ, and that only continued once Colin Kaepernick started his protests of police brutality.

Although Harbaugh was not Kaepernick's head coach at the time, he was constantly asked about it while he was the head coach at Michigan and once again handled it perfectly. He has been an ally of Colin from the start and he has kept that from making him a lightning rod for conversation. Harbaugh has also had to deal with the mounting pressure over the past seven years that has been put on his Michigan Wolverines football program to beat their rival Ohio State Buckeyes. He never cracked under that tension either, as Michigan finally upended the Buckeyes and advanced to their first-ever College Football Playoff this past year.

1. He has turned around every team he has ever taken over

This one is huge because that is exactly what he will be tasked with up in New York if he takes this job. After a 15-year career as a quarterback in the NFL, Harbaugh got his first head-coaching job for the University of San Diego Toreros football team in 2004, and by 2006 he had given them their first two conference championships in school history. He then went to the Stanford Cardinal in 2007 and by 2011 he had turned them around from PAC-12 doormat to the Cardinal's first bowl win since 1996 and the first BCS bowl victory in school history.

After that, Harbaugh went to the 49ers and took them from a non-competitive, 6-10 team under Mike Singletary to in representing the NFC in the Super Bowl in 2013. After a few things broke down between himself and the front office in San Fransisco, Harbaugh was let go and immediately latched on with the University of Michigan. The Wolverines had gone just 4-7 the previous year under Brady Hoke and although it took Harbaugh a bit more time to turn Michigan around than it took him with other teams, he did the job in the end by getting them to the College Football Playoff this past year.

So, there you have it, the three biggest reasons that the Giants absolutely must sign Jim Harbaugh as their next head coach. From his Super Bowl experience to his media savvy, to his ability to turn teams around, Harbaugh has everything that New York, or any team for that matter, should be looking for.
