The Phoenix Suns are playing like the best team in basketball throughout the first two-plus months of the season, maybe behind the Golden State Warriors.

It seems like the Warriors and Suns are destined to meet in the Conference Finals and there's a great chance that whoever wins that game is going to win the NBA title.

Up until last year, Phoenix had little to no success in the past decade but that has changed as they are arguably the best team for the past two seasons, maybe behind the Milwaukee Bucks. They have to have somewhat of a bitter taste in their mouth after blowing a 2-0 series lead to the Bucks a year ago in the NBA Finals but they have shown this year that they are not worried about that and they are just worrying about what they can control at the moment and that's getting back to another NBA finals and taking care of business this time around.

There arent a ton of areas Phoenix can improve on, but let's take a look at what Chris Paul and Devin Booker are going to need during the New Year.

Suns New Year's Resolution

3. Pay Deandre Ayton

This is the year that Ayton is going to get a super-max contract and the Phoenix Suns need to make sure that they do this. Look, there are better centers out there and it's understandable why Phoenix fans do get a little frustrated with his play at times. There are nights where he doesn't take over as much as he needs to do but that's expected when you are still that young. If Chris Paul never came along and sped up this rebuilding process for the Suns team, people would view Ayton as the perfect piece. He's already one of the reasons why the Suns have had this much success and that's been shown in the past week as Phoenix has struggled against teams that they would easily beat if Deandre Ayton was on the court. There's no reason to fool around anymore and they just need to give the guy the money that he deserves.

Regardless if DeAndre Ayton is a supermax type of player, it doesn't matter because he is one of the keys to this Phoenix Suns organization and they will not find the same type of success if they let him go. There are not many other guys who can do what he does and unless they can bring somebody in like Karl Anthony-Towns, they need to give this guy all the money that he's asking for.

2. Keep the core together, but move someone for a guard

There are still areas that the Suns can improve on, whether that be another point guard to be the backup or go and get somebody who could fill that forward position. There's not a lot for them to do because quite honestly, their roster is built perfectly. Whether that be from Devin Booker to Chris Paul, to Cam Johnson, and to many other guys on the roster, the Phoenix front office did an excellent job of building this team because they are incredible from one through eight in their lineup. They're probably the deepest team in the NBA and that is another reason why they've had so much success the past year-and-a-half.

Phoenix can use another combo-guard type of guy who can come in and be a scorer even if that's off the bench. Besides that, there are really not many areas that the Suns can improve on because they are simply that good throughout their roster. They do have Jalen Smith who they could decide to move on from during the trade deadline and maybe bring somebody in who can make an immediate impact.

1. Get the job done this time around

There's no other way of putting it besides the Phoenix Suns went from one of the worst teams in basketball before last season, to being one of the best teams in all of the NBA the past two seasons. They have been totally dominant and besides the Milwaukee Bucks, no team has been better the past two seasons. There's only one way to capitalize on their success the past two seasons and that's walking away with a ring in Phoenix. Everybody knows that last time was not an easy loss but you have to tip your cap to the Bucks and Giannis for what he was able to do. This is a new year and as crazy as it sounds, the Suns look even better than they did a year ago when they lost in the finals. There's no reason to think why they can't get back to that same spot and who knows, they might even face off against Giannis and the Bucks once again. This time, Phoenix might have the upper hand and they're going to try to get the job done and walk away with a nice ring.
