The New York Knicks came into the 2021-22 NBA season hoping to see a resurgent campaign from veteran point guard Kemba Walker. After bringing him in on a one-year deal, hopes were running high in New York that Walker would be the missing piece to championship contention. However, that has not been the case so far.

Just 20 games into the season, head coach Tom Thibodeau made a big move. He announced that Walker would no longer be in the team's rotation moving forward.

With Walker out of the lineup, Alec Burks will be starting at point guard. That leaves the Knicks with Derrick Rose coming off of the bench at the point guard position. What the future holds for Walker is unknown at this point in time, but it's certainly a sad moment for him.

Through the first 18 games of the campaign for Walker, the veteran guard averaged just 11.7 points per game to go along with 3.1 assists and 2.6 rebounds. He shot 42.9 percent from the floor overall and knocked down 41.3 percent of his 3-point attempts. Obviously, those shooting numbers aren't terrible, but the overall fit has not worked for either side.

Now, the question becomes, will the Knicks hold on to Walker? Will he try to request a trade so he can play elsewhere? The future is completely unknown at this point in time.

All of that being said, let's dive in and take a look at three teams who should make a move to trade for Walker with the Knicks.

Kemba Walker Trade Destinations

3. Indiana Pacers

While the Indiana Pacers are a very unlikely potential trade destination for Walker, they could make sense. They struggle with point guard play off the bench despite the defensive prowess and energy that T.J. McConnell brings. Indiana has also made it a point under new head coach Rick Carlisle to play Malcolm Brogdon more off the ball.

If the franchise wants to go completely in that direction, trading for Walker to be their new starting point guard and moving Brogdon to shooting guard could make sense. That would give the Pacers more scoring and Walker the opportunity to play his game. Carlisle and company need some kind of change to their roster and Walker might be an intriguing pickup.

Of course, if things didn't work out in Indiana, the Pacers could part ways with Walker immediately following the 2021-22 season. This is a possibility that would make some sense and the two teams have enough pieces to work out a deal that would make sense for both of them.

2. Dallas Mavericks

The Dallas Mavericks have been searching for another dynamic guard for quite some time now. Mark Cuban has never shied away from making a big move, even if that move could backfire (remember Rajon Rondo?). Trading for Walker might be exactly the kind of move that Dallas needs to make to take the next step in the Western Conference.

During the offseason, quite a few reports came out of Dallas that the Mavs were looking for a primary ball-handler to play alongside Luka Doncic. Walker's name was one that came up prior to him landing with the Knicks. Could the Mavs double back and consider trying to pick him up now?

Walker would be able to head to Dallas and would be asked to be a legitimate scoring threat. Taking pressure off of Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis would be a good role that Walker could handle. This is one of the most likely scenarios if the Knicks do look to trade Walker this season.

1. Philadelphia 76ers

No, we are not saying that the Philadelphia 76ers and Knicks should come together on a trade that swaps Ben Simmons and Walker. However, the Sixers would be an intriguing trade destination for Walker. Due to their situation with Simmons, Philadelphia has a glaring need at the point guard position and Walker could be a potential answer.

Tyrese Maxey has come in and played well, but he is not a point guard. He would be much better off coming off the bench and being a primary scorer for the second unit. Trading for a talent like Walker would be a move that the 76ers would make to try to work their way back to being a legitimate contender in the Eastern Conference.

Depending on the price tag, a trade to the Sixers could work out. Playing for a coach like Doc Rivers could work wonders for Walker to get his career back on track. Philadelphia is a team to keep a close eye on as the trade deadline draws closer.
