Max Scherzer is a free agent for the second time in his career. He's a three-time Cy Young Award winner and was sensational for both the Washington Nationals and the Los Angeles Dodgers last season.

He's the type of guy who can come in and not only help a team win ballgames but change the dynamic of a clubhouse. There are many teams around the league who would benefit from having Scherzer not only from a winning standpoint but also from what he brings outside of that. Let's take a look at three teams that could benefit from adding Max Scherzer this offseason.

3 Teams That Should Sign Max Scherzer

Yankees

The New York Yankees need another starting pitcher next to Gerrit Cole that can make an impact. They have some other serviceable arms on the team but if they want to make a deep playoff run there's going to be no better 1-2 punch in baseball than Gerrit Cole and Max Scherzer. You can make the argument that both of these pictures are the two best pitchers in all of baseball. The Yankees have not performed the way that fans, players and the front office was hoping for recently.

Any season that doesn't end in a World Series championship for the New York Yankees is considered a failure. The Yankees have come out a few times and said that they were willing to spend any amount of money that they need to get their team back to being contenders. Max Scherzer would be the perfect start for them as he can come in and give you a 15-plus win season on the mound and be one of the best postseason pitchers as he has been in the past decade.

The Yankees don't have many guys right now who have Championship experience. Scherzer would bring in the much-needed experience of winning a championship and help the Yankees get over their long-awaited drought. Scherzer is also a bulldog in the clubhouse and bringing in his type of intensity and mindset will certainly help the struggling Yankees team.

Back with the Dodgers

This isn't necessarily something that the Dodgers need to do. They have an elite two-man rotation with Walker Buehler and Julio Urias, plus they are also going to get back Dustin May and possibly re-sign Clayton Kershaw. The Dodgers have been more successful than the Yankees have been in the past couple of years, but the same applies to them, any year that they don't win a championship in LA, is a failure.

It would make sense for the Dodgers to want to re-sign him after he had a 7-0 record for them last season and also finished as one of the top three Cy Young Award candidates. Not only did Scherzer go 7-0 last season, but he also had a 1.98 era for LA and struck out 89 batters in only had eight walks in 68.1 innings pitched.

The Dodgers are also going to probably lose Corey Seager and Chris Tayor so they might decide to bring in another elite offensive bat if they think that they have enough pitching to get them through.

The best can always get better, and that's certainly what the Dodgers are going to look to do this offseason.

Mets

With Marcus Stroman being a free agent, and Jacob DeGrom coming off an injury, it would make sense for the Mets to go out and get an elite starting pitcher. When DeGrom is back and healthy, he's proved time and time again that he's undoubtedly the best pitcher in the MLB. He can even make a case for being the most dominant pitcher of all time.

The Mets are going to spend a lot of money this offseason as they need to desperately improve their lineup, but if they do lose Stroman and they are worried that DeGrom won't come back as great as he has been, Max Scherzer would definitely be the answer for the Mets.

He is 37 years old, but he has proven throughout his entire career that he's not going to slow down anytime soon. If he showed anything this season with the Dodgers, it's that he's still at the peak of his career and it doesn't look like he's going to slow down anytime soon.

It would make sense for any team in the MLB to add him but at this point in his career, he should go to a team that could contend in the playoffs and possibly win a World Series.
