It is only a matter of time before current Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton is traded — or perhaps at the very least released — by the lowly AFC North franchise. After serving as the team's longtime starter under center, Dalton was unable to continue his success in Cincinnati last season as the Bengals finished the 2019-20 regular season with just two wins and the worst record in the entire NFL.

As a result, the Bengals now own the No. 1 overall pick in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Not only that, but Cincinnati remains in line to select former LSU Tigers quarterback, national champion and Heisman Trophy winner Joe Burrow at No. 1 overall. With that being said, it is unlikely that Dalton wants to stick around to serve as the team's mentor or backup at this stage of his professional tenure — and understandably so.

Unfortunately for Dalton, though, there are only 32 starting quarterback jobs in the NFL while there may not be one left for him for the 2020-21 campaign. Nonetheless, there should be a trade market for the seasoned signal caller, with a few teams seemingly slated to serve as potential matches for him.

Tennessee Titans

Former Tennessee Titans starting quarterback Marcus Mariota is now a member of the Las Vegas Raiders, where he will either compete against or back-up fellow signal caller Derek Carr. On the other hand, with Mariota in “Sin City,” former Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill was rewarded with a multi-year deal from the Titans, who originally acquired him via trade last season.

With the tandem of Mariota and Tannehill leading the way under center for the Titans last season, Tennessee now needs a formidable backup behind their newly signed signal caller. A similar player to Tannehill, Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton could help the Titans in case of emergency and shouldn't cost too much.

Los Angeles Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers could very well select a soon-to-be rookie quarterback as a result of the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. If the Chargers elect to do so, that player will be paired with a veteran presence in journeyman NFL quarterback Tyrod Taylor with longtime Los Angeles signal caller Philip Rivers now a member of the Indianapolis Colts.

However, the Chargers could look to compete right off the bat in 2020-21 while a rookie quarterback or Taylor could set the franchise back a bit. For that reason, perhaps Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton, someone who has won atop the highest level, could serve as a placeholder in the interim.

Jacksonville Jaguars

With quarterback Nick Foles recently being traded to the Chicago Bears, it is officially Gardner Minshew time in Florida. However, it remains to be seen as to whether Minshew is truly the answer under center for the AFC South franchise as the Jacksonville Jaguars could potentially bring in a veteran presence to add some competition alongside the soon-to-be second-year quarterback.

If that is ultimately the decision that is made in Jacksonville, the Jaguars could attempt to acquire Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton to compete against or eventually back-up Minshew in 2020-21.
