The Los Angeles Rams decided to add a couple of veterans in free agency this offseason. One of them is none other than Clay Matthews. Matthews comes from the Green Bay Packers, where he played for 10 seasons.

The Rams needed to add some experience at outside linebacker and found just that in Matthews. He may not be the same dominant player off of the edge that he once was, but he's still productive.

Last season, Matthews had a career-low in sacks with just 3.5 of them all year. He figures to see that number rise playing alongside a guy like Aaron Donald in the interior.

Matthews is a perfect fit for a young Los Angeles team as he played his college football at USC. The Rams will be playing at The Coliseum in 2019 once again (where Matthews played his college games at USC). After this year, the Rams will be playing in their new stadium in Inglewood.

There may be a few things that not everyone knows about the Rams new veteran pass rusher. Here are three things to know about Clay Matthews.

Clay Matthews, Rams

3. Went to High School in Agoura Hills, California

One of the reasons why Matthews decided to sign with the Rams is because Los Angeles is where he calls home. Matthews attended Agoura High School in Agoura Hills, California before he found himself at USC.

In high school, Matthews was a little undersized and didn't play much until the latter years of high school. His dad was his defensive coordinator in high school, but decided not to play Clay due to his lack of size.

Near the end of his high school career, Matthews sought to play college football, but only had offers from FCS schools. Instead, Matthews decided to walk on at USC just like his father and uncle did.

The rest is history as Matthews walked on at USC and then became a first-round pick in the NFL. Seems like Matthews made the right decision to walk-on at USC while Pete Carroll was the head coach.

2. Made a Cameo in Pitch Perfect 2

Who would've known that a guy like Matthews loved singing? We found out he has an interest in it when we saw make a cameo in Pitch Perfect 2.

Everyone knows the Pitch Perfect movies led by Anna Kendrick but some were surprised to witness the long-haired blonde guy make an appearance in the second installment.

In the movie, Clay is seen with his former teammates David Bakhtiari, Josh Sitton, T.J. Lang, and Don Barclay. The group of Packers players did a group scene where they are all singing while Matthews has a cut-off vest.

After doing the movie, it was revealed that Matthews and the other Packers were huge fans of the first film and wanted to be in the second one. Clay got his wish and returned home to California, only this time to film a scene for a movie.

Clay Matthews

1. His First Name is Actually William

Some people may be surprised to see that when they search “Clay Matthews” that his first name pops up as William. His first name is actually William while he goes by his middle name which is Clay.

He comes from a long line of William Matthews as his dad and his dad's dad were named William Clay Matthews. Of course, his dad also played in the NFL for multiple teams over the course of 19 seasons.

Clay's dad also played linebacker and attended college at the University of Southern California. He was also a first-round draft pick in the 1978 NFL Draft. The similarities between their careers are uncanny, especially sharing the same name.

Clay comes from a long line of NFL players from his family and he has guys in the NFL now who are related to him. Football runs in the Matthews family and don't be surprised when William Clay Matthews IV (Clay's son) is making tackles in the NFL.
