3 top Brewers targets ahead of 2022 MLB trade deadline

Josh Bell

The Brewers need another slugger on their roster. Hunter Renfroe has provided power for Milwaukee but has also dealt with injuries this season. Rowdy Tellez has plenty of pure strength but lacks consistency. Christian Yelich isn't the same hitter he once was.

But Washington Nationals' first baseman Josh Bell is a switch-hitting home run threat who the Brewers should inquire about.

Bell is enjoying an under-the-radar impressive 2022 campaign. He slashing .319/.401/.517 with an OPS just under .920. Bell has also smashed 12 home runs and tallied 47 RBI's. Milwaukee's first base depth currently revolves around Keston Hiura and Rowdy Tellez. However, Josh Bell would be a significant upgrade.

The Brewers need to make an effort to acquire Bell ahead of the trade deadline.

Bryan Reynolds

Teams are not always open to trading within the division. But the Pittsburgh Pirates might make an exception if the Brewers give them a good enough package for centerfielder Bryan Reynolds.

Reynolds is a 27-year old outfielder who has 15 home runs under his belt in 2022. He would more than make up for the absence of Lorenzo Cain in center field, who was cut from the team in June. Reynolds' defensive prowess in the outfield to go along with his steady bat should catch Milwaukee's interest.

The issue is that Reynolds is only in his fourth MLB season. Although the Pirates are rebuilding, there is no need to move Reynolds now since they have multiple years of team control. But Pittsburgh would receive a grandiose haul for Bryan Reynolds should they decide to trade him prior to the 2022 MLB trade deadline.

But it would take a superb offer to make this deal come to fruition.

Andrew Benintendi

Andrew Benintendi is another outfielder who profiles well for the Brewers. He doesn't offer the same offensive prowess as Bryan Reynolds, but Benintendi is hitting over .300 and will come at a cheaper price. The Royals outfielder is headed for free agency at season's end so Milwaukee wouldn't need to give up as much for him.

At the same time, Benintendi could wind up being a half-season rental. But the Brewers may be willing to take that chance since they want to win the World Series this year.

Benintendi would presumably slide into the top of Milwaukee's batting order. His ability to get on base and put the ball in play would make him the perfect catalyst for the Brewers.

Final thoughts

The Milwaukee Brewers are a candidate to reach the Fall Classic with their roster as is. But adding offensive firepower would only enhance their chance of reaching the World Series. It would also place less pressure on their pitchers to carry the load.

If the Brewers could somehow find a way to land two of these guys, they would immeditaely be in the conversation for best team in baseball. But acquiring just one of them would certainly suffice.
