The Minnesota Vikings lost in embarrassing fashion in Week 13 to the winless Detroit Lions. The Vikings fall to an unfortunate 5-7 on the season after the loss.

It looks like it's going to be another disappointing season in Minnesota as they haven't found much success in the past few seasons. There is way too much talent on this team for them to be 5-7 and losing to arguably the worst team that the NFL has seen in almost the past decade.

Minnesota continuously lets teams back into ball games and never can just simply dominate a game. Mostly all of their games have come down to only a touchdown or less. It seems that they can never play four quarters worth of dominant football and that was the case on Sunday when they lost to the Detroit Lions. They were losing 20-6 at halftime and unfortunately for them, they couldn't get a stop with four seconds remaining in the game.

Their chances of making the playoffs are slim to none after this loss unless they can somehow win the remaining five games of the season.

Let's take a look at some takeaways from the Vikings-Lions game in Week 13.

Vikings Week 13 takeaways

3. The two-point conversion calls lost the game

It's tough to say that one thing was the reason that the Vikings lost on Sunday, but the three two-point conversion calls do not help. Either way, the Vikings should never be in this close of a game with a team like the Lions and it's their fault that they ever had to go for two-points conversions.

However, they did lose by only two points, so if they were able to get into the endzone just one time on the two-point conversions, they would have at least brought the game to overtime. They did what they had to do, but if they just took the points that they were given by kicking a field goal or if they converted on just one of them, it would have been a completely different game.

2. Prevent defense?

Why give the offense the chance to get a free 15 yards and go out of bounds when there are only 20 seconds left on the clock? It's not like the Lions have an explosive wide receiver who could beat one of the Vikings' defensive backs for a touchdown. They gave them too many free yards and that allowed the Vikings to throw a touchdown with only four seconds on the clock before the final snap.

It was a horrible play call from the Vikings defensive coordinator and not only did he do it once, but he did it multiple times.

1. The playoffs are out of reach

Although there is still a slight possibility that the Vikings can sneak into the playoffs, the chance of that happening is almost zero. They have to face the Los Angeles Rams, the Green Bay Packers, and the Pittsburgh Steelers in three of their remaining five games.

If they cannot take care of a team as bad as Detroit, they have virtually no chance of beating any of those teams. It's going to be another disappointing season in Minnesota and Viking fans aren't going to be happy with the future of this team. This was one of the most embarrassing losses in recent Vikings history as it was inexcusable to lose to a team that was 0-10-1 before coming into the contest.
