The 2019 season will serve as a transitional year for the Miami Dolphins and first year head coach Brian Flores. With the acquisition of former Patriots assistant coach Brian Flores, the Ryan Tannehill era in Miami has also officially come to an end.

This year will present a new opportunity for the Dolphins' franchise to comb through all options in order to find their signal caller of the future, and face of their franchise. Whether it be the 2019 NFL Draft, a potential trade, a future free agent signing, or even the 2020 NFL Draft, a new face is needed for a franchise who has been starving for a franchise signal caller since the retirement of Hall of Famer Dan Marino, following the 1999 season.

Miami has seemed to be skeptical of the 2019 NFL Draft class, perhaps setting their sights on the 2020 class, which includes Tua Tagovailoa (Alabama), Jake Fromm (Georgia), and Justin Herbert (Oregon) at the top of the class. With this long look forward, the Dolphins have decided upon the ultimate stop gap quarterback solution for at least the next year, former Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick. Call him FitzMagic.

What can we expect from Ryan Fitzpatrick for the 2019 NFL season? Let’s take a look at some way-too-early bold predictions that FitzMagic just may be able to achieve.

3. Fitzpatrick will lead the NFL in interceptions… by a lot.

Over Ryan Fitzpatrick’s 14-year career, he has thrown 15 or more interceptions five times. Despite the “FitzMagic” craze early in the 2018 season, his success quickly fizzled and he still managed to toss 12 interceptions in only eight games played (seven starts).

Throughout the majority of Fitzpatrick's professional career, he has long been profiled as a risk-reward passer at his finest. For every fantastic play and gamble that has eventually played off, there will eventually be a bad turnover (most of the time in the wrong moment of the game).

Luckily for Fitz, there are no other viable options outside of a potential 2019 NFL Draft selection. If the Dolphins choose to bypass the quarterback class completely, it is sink or swim for this version of the Dolphins' FitzMagic. Even when he tosses his 25th interception of the season, does anyone think Luke Falk would be a better option? To quote the great Chad Ochocinco, “child please.”

2. Fitzpatrick will set his career high in rushing yards

The 36-year-old signal caller has been notorious for holding the ball a long time, much too long from time to time. A five to seven step drop with a hitch is his calling card, demonstrating great timing to the intermediate and deep levels of the field, with mostly good ball placement.

When provided with a good offensive line, Fitzpatrick has shown the ability to be able to settle in a clean pocket and affect most levels on the football field. The problem for Mr. Fitzpatrick is he is about to be placed behind an underwhelmingly mediocre offensive line, outside of left tackle Laremy Tunsil.

There is going to be some more “hero ball” added to Fitzpatrick's game this season. His career high in rushing yards is only 304 yards in 2008 with the Cincinnati Bengals. Over the course of his career, he has averaged a healthy 4.5 yards per carry. An above average athlete, Fitzpatrick just may be tasked with more responsibility to move the chains off of script. Over-under 304 yards… bet the over.

1. Fitzpatrick will break the 30 touchdown mark for the second time in his career

Easily the boldest prediction of the list, FitzMagic has only eclipsed the 30 touchdown mark once in his NFL career (31 in 2015 with the New York Jets).  It seems likely that Fitzpatrick will have the green light in 2019 for the Dolphins, no matter the on field success or failure they accrue.

Unless they decide they want to see if Jake Rudolph or Luke Falk have any untapped potential for a future roster spot, or potentially more. Hard pass for me personally. The only other variable that might upset the Fitzpatrick green light is the magic is too much, and the Tank for Tua mission is in danger. The ladder is always possible, but let’s be honest, this roster is bad.

There are holes everywhere. The projection towards playoff roster is highly questionable. Plus even if they win more games than projected, there are ways to get up and get your guy. The term “tank” is severely overused, and in many cases has become obsolete.

With the Dolphins potentially down in a ton of football games, look for the pigskin to be flying early and often. If the Dolphins have anything, they do have some speed in the pass game. Wide receivers Kenny Stills, Devante Parker, Albert Wilson, and even tight end Mike Gesiscki all have vertical ability that Fitzpatrick will look to take advantage of.

While the touchdown to interception ratio may not be among the leagues best, look for Fitz to put up some solid touchdown passing numbers this season, finishing among the league's best.
