The Houston Texans finally seem to be on the rebound but still have a long ways to go before becoming competitive once again. It'll be interesting to see how this team plays this year, as the roster has plenty of holes that need filling. Despite that, Houston can generate some excitement if some players step up their game. With that in mind, we take a look at three, way too early predictions for the Texans' 2022 season.

Many don't see much hope for the offense as the roster lacks star power. However, there are plenty of opportunities for stars to arise. Brandin Cooks leads the way as the top pass option for the Texans, however, a young prospect receiver could prove to be a gem for this team. As for the defense, the front office reeled in exciting talent to the secondary, and all eyes will be on the exceptional rookies.

Additionally,  the future of the franchise hangs in the balance of the upcoming season. Davis Mills is set to be the starting quarterback and has a real opportunity to showcase his skill set. After having a decent rookie year, Mills could be a nice surprise for the Texans for years to come.

With that said, here are three, way too early predictions for the Texans' 2022 season.

Texans Way Too Early Predictions For The 2022 NFL Season

3. Nico Collins becomes a consistent pass option for Houston

It was expected for him to spend most of his rookie campaign learning and developing. Now, Nico Collins is pegged to be a top-two pass option in Houston's offense. He flashed potential last year and his large frame makes him a potential red-zone threat for the Texans. If he can put it all together, then Houston suddenly has two decent receivers on the roster.

Collins has the tools necessary to be a legitimate wide receiver in the NFL. He can match up with any cornerback in the league and become a consistent target. Nico Collins has the opportunity of a lifetime, as the Texans didn't obtain any receivers who are a threat to take away his role on the offense.

2. Derek Stingley Jr. wins Defensive Rookie of the Year

The highly touted rookie cornerback is set to be an immediate starter and should live up to expectations. Although it'll be difficult for the Texans to be competitive in the 2022 season, Derek Stingley Jr. can be a player to lean on. He is ready for the big stage and should become a pivotal star in Houston.

If he plays well, then Stingley Jr. could be in the running for the Defensive Rookie of the Year award. This should be a goal of his entering the season, as winning this title means the Texans have a superstar cornerback on their hands. Look for Derek Stingley Jr. to make some noise, as he is a future superstar in the making.

1. Davis Mills proves to be a franchise quarterback

Davis Mills is in a peculiar situation. He's entering the second year of his career but many believe the Texans are in the market for a quarterback in 2023. Especially considering Houston is likely going to be one of the worst in the league this season. However, Mills showed flashes of consistency during his rookie campaign and could prove to be a legitimate starter for this franchise.

If that's the case, then the front office can continue building around Davis Mills rather than start from scratch with another young quarterback. If he can prove to be a legitimate starter, then the Texans' rebuild will be much faster than originally anticipated. If not, then Houston stays the course and likely replaces Mills in next year's draft. Keep an eye on him, as the young quarterback has a real shot at earning the starting role for multiple years.
