The Wisconsin Badgers basketball program just lost a Herro. Tyler Herro that is. This is a relatively huge loss for the Badgers, as Herro is both a rising prospect and already considered a 4-star talent.

Herro, ranked 27th among all 2018 prospects by ESPN, announced that he is backing out of his verbal commitment to play for the Big Ten program on Twitter late Tuesday.

Herro’s change of heart, however, doesn’t appear to have anything to do with the college recruitment scandal, as there is currently no known Wisconsin personality linked to the FBI probe. While this is altering other recruiting classes across the country, this seems to be more aligned with wanting to weigh his options all over again, as opposed to some dirty secret in the underbelly of Wisconsin's program.

The 6-foot-4 point guard could’ve been a hit for the Badgers basketball team. Apart from being one of the best backcourt pieces expected to go college next year, Herro is a homegrown talent, a native of Wisconsin who is currently polishing his skills at Whitnall High School in Milwaukee County.

With Herro no longer interested in playing for the Greg Gard’s team, the Badgers are left with zero commitments for 2018. Their other two offers for Joey Hauser and Nate Laszewski have been both declined with the players choosing to go to Marquette and Notre Dame, respectively.

Obviously, with many other top-tier prospects having already committed in the 2018 class, Tyler Herro will become a hot commodity on the recruiting trail. It will be interesting to see what new programs start to offer him a scholarship.
