The first volume of Stranger Things 4 saw a lot of interesting developments happen. For one, the main antagonist this season is one that has ties to Eleven and his existence is among the few catalysts that jumpstart the entire story itself. Add the fact that Jim Hopper is finally reunited with Joyce Byers in Russia and Nancy is stuck in the Upside Down, and there'll be a lot to expect from volume two when it hits Netflix soon.

The thing is, it looks like not everyone will come out of this latest season in one piece. Whether it's by some strange twist of fate or falling prey to Vecna himself, there are bound to be some casualties from Stranger Things 4 before the season itself ends. We take a deep dive down below at some potential death predictions that can occur soon.

Stranger Things 4 death predictions you should keep an eye out for

Stranger Things Season 4 Release Date

Nancy Wheeler

Stranger Things 4 Volume 2 ended with Vecna taking hold of Nancy's mind inside the Upside Down just as she was about to escape from it. Thanks to repressed memories of Barb dying in season one, the show's current antagonist found a way to possess Mike's older sister and prevent her from returning to the real world.

With Nancy in the clutches of Vecna, it's safe to say that her life is in danger the moment volume 2 lands on Netflix. With how she has been built up from the show's start as a timid young lady to a fierce and independent adult, killing her off can set off several characters in different directions and help them evolve more for season five. These can potentially include Jonathan Byers, Steve, and Mike, among others.

If Nancy bites the dust before Stranger Things 4 is done, expect her death to ripple across Hawkins. Since she's among the well-known characters residing in the said town, her passing would really make an impact and finally confirm that it's not the innocent and safe place most people call home in the series.

Jim Hopper

Speaking of impact, Jim Hopper's death would certainly be a bigger one if the show's creators decide to kill him off. Last we saw the former chief of police, he was finally reunited with Joyce and Murray Bauman after fending off a live Demogorgon in a Russian prison. With this development in mind, there's a pretty good chance the trio will make it back in time for the big showdown against Vecna.

In this potential scenario, Hopper can be the one to make the proverbial sacrifice play if Eleven, her adopted daughter, is in the line of danger. What makes this death prediction bittersweet is that Hopper would be reunited with his loved ones for a short time and go off in a blaze of glory to save the day.

Although that scenario will have a greater impact on all characters, this can also go the other way and Hopper can still survive. With all the buildup he endured in a Russian gulag and the amount of effort just to escape it, he could still survive and make it past Stranger Things 4. Nevertheless, with the kind of danger he's currently in, there's no definite way of saying he'll be safe.

Steve Harrington

In the event Nancy makes it out of Stranger Things 4 Volume 2 alive, the same may be said of Steve by that time. Everyone's favorite man-child and babysitter has seen his popularity grow throughout the past seasons as the character himself has evolved well. With his lovable nature and charming personality, Steve's potential death will be a huge blow for the gang in Hawkins, and everyone who has stuck by Stranger Things as a whole.

At the end of Stranger Things episode 7, we see Vecna taking hold of Nancy's mind in the Upside Down. With Jonathan miles away from Hawkins, it stands to reason that Steve would charge back into the otherworldly dimension to save his ex-girlfriend. With the way the show has been building these two up while Jonathan is absent, it stands to reason that the tension between these two can potentially culminate with one of them dying this season.

Steve's possible death will only affect everyone around him, most specifically Dustin, Max, and the other younger kids, but trigger a wave of strong backlash from the show's fans. While that would be intense, the buzz it would generate would surely help Stranger Things end on a high note and make everyone look forward to season five.

Mike Wheeler

Perhaps the death that will resonate the most for Eleven, unarguably the most important character in Stranger Things, is that of Mike. With how their friendship, and eventual relationship have blossomed over the years, killing him off would set the entire show and Eleven's arc in a different direction.

Mike potential death would also signal that the Stranger Things we first saw won't be the same one moving forward. This would give fans the impression that the show is growing up. Mike's demise would serve as the catalyst for Eleven, Will, Lucas, Dustin, and Max to grow up and become adults carrying a shared burden together.

With over a week to go before Stranger Things 4 Volume 2 lands on Netflix, there'll surely be some characters that won't make it to season five. Until then, these fans of the show should keep an eye out for these characters and how their story arcs would play out in the final two episodes.
