Despite months of anticipation, the 2020 NFL Draft has officially come and gone. With the New England Patriots about to enter a new era of football, eyes throughout the NFL realm remained on the AFC East franchise over the course of the entire weekend.

Patriots move out of the first round

In typical Patriots fashion, the AFC East powerhouse wasted absolutely no time in making a move on Thursday evening. Originally slated to pick at No. 23 overall in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, the Patriots promptly traded out of Thursday's opening round and moved back into the second round, beginning with picks No. 37 and No. 60.

Showing what the Patriots have become, New England used its first of two second round picks on a Division II player, former Lenoir-Rhyne safety Kyle Dugger. The Patriots then selected former Michigan edge rusher Josh Uche at No. 60. Even with the Patriots choosing to move back into the second and third rounds, both Dugger and Uche definitely possess the ability to make an immediate impact for New England in 2020.

On the other hand, the Los Angeles Chargers went on to select former Oklahoma linebacker Kenneth Murray with the Patriots' 23rd overall NFL Draft pick upon acquiring it from New England.

Patriots don't select a quarterback as a result of 2020 NFL Draft

Entering this year's NFL Draft, the Patriots had a quarterback tandem of Jarett Stidham and Brian Hoyer.

Upon cutting Cody Kessler earlier in the offseason, it initially seemed inevitable that New England would select a quarterback in the 2020 NFL Draft. However, that didn't happen.

It is worth noting, though, that the Patriots signed former Michigan State quarterback Brian Lewerke as an undrafted free agent.

Obviously, both former Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton and current Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton remain short-term options for New England, which doesn't appear to be interested in the services of either signal caller.

Patriots select not one, but two tight ends

Although current Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end Rob Gronkowski did not suit up for the New England Patriots last season, the AFC East franchise is definitely still trying to fill the void left by him. Last season, the Patriots went with a slew of different players rotating at the position; New England might do the same this time around.

With the team's second and third third round NFL Draft picks, the Patriots selected a pair of tight ends in Devin Asiasi out of UCLA and Dalton Keene out of Virginia Tech. New England did not take a quarterback, running back or wide receiver.

In addition to Asiasi and Keene, the Patriots currently employ Ryan Izzo, Matt LaCosse and Jakob Johnson at the tight end position. With head coach Bill Belichick known to go against the grain, all five may very well be featured for the Patriots come next season.

Patriots use first of two fifth round picks on a place kicker

The Patriots no longer have Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski. They divorced longtime place kicker Stephen Gostkowski as well.

Upon letting go of Gostkowski, it was obvious that the Patriots would be heading in a different direction at the position.

Opting to not pick up a veteran on the open market, the Patriots surprisingly selected former Marshall place kicker Justin Rohrwasser at No. 159 in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

Because there were a few kickers New England could have selected in the 2020 NFL Draft, many were surprised not by the team's specific pick at that point in the draft.

Although it is more than likely that head coach Bill Belichick will bring in some additional competition at the position later on this offseason, it appears the job is Rohrwasser's to lose. As it stands today, Rohrwasser is the only placekicker on the team's active roster with Jake Bailey serving as the only punter on the Pats.
