San Francisco 49ers rookie wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk is getting work in with quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and some of his other teammates.

“It was like, ‘I’m on the field right now catching passes from Jimmy G,'” Aiyuk said, via Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle. “That’s when it kind of hit me.”

Leading up to this point, Aiyuk has been in virtual meetings, but he hadn't worked out with any of his teammates. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, players that aren't rehabbing aren't allowed inside the practice facility.

Garoppolo has been leading these throwing sessions at San Jose State University dating back all the way to April. But Aiyuk was still recovering from a core muscle surgery.

Aiyuk still isn't sure what the time before training camp is going to look like, but he is going to try and get as much work in as he can with his teammates.

“I don’t know exactly what it will look like,” Aiyuk said. “But I’ll be trying to get with those guys as much as I can.”

Aiyuk might be a little behind some of his other teammates, but he isn't going to waste any time trying to get caught up. He was selected late in the first round by the 49ers, with the hope that he can become a true number one for the team. The 49ers have had a talented team the last few years, but they seem to be missing that star wide receiver. Aiyuk hopes to come in and be a difference-maker.
