It took only one game for Jalen Hurd of the San Francisco 49ers to realize why he tried to make an NFL career from a different vantage point.

Jalen Hurd spent his first three collegiate seasons at Tennessee as a running back. He transferred to Baylor for his senior year and made the switch to wide receiver.

That move proved to be a fruitful one. He was selected in the third round (67th overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft. The team that drafted him was the San Francisco 49ers, and he is already making his presence felt.

On Saturday, the 49ers had their first preseason game of 2019. That meant Hurd would be in action in an NFL game for the first time in his career.

Hurd delivered a solid game, and it all started with a 20-yard catch-and-run touchdown on a ball thrown by quarterback Nick Mullens.

Sure, it's “just” a preseason game, but that's still a really cool way to get an NFL career started. Jalen Hurd's first catch in an NFL game was a 20-yard touchdown reception.

That wasn't all he did either. At the time this article was written, the rookie had three receptions for 31 yards and two touchdowns. That's right, he added one more touchdown before the day was over. That might not be his final statistical tally.

The San Francisco 49ers were one of the worst teams in the NFL last year but are trying to take a major step forward in 2019. A big part of that could be their passing game.

Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo missed most of last year due to injury. He'll be back; with weapons such  as Jalen Hurd, he could produce a strong bounce-back season.

This is definitely the type of game the San Francisco 49ers were hoping to see from their third-round pick. It will be interesting to see how far up the wide receiver ladder Jalen Hurd can climb before the preseason is over.
