It has been a week since the San Francisco 49ers fell to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl and the players are now focused on next season. Before training camps begin, Dee Ford is not expected to have knee surgery in the offseason.

Prior to the 2019 season, the 49ers acquired Ford in a trade with the Chiefs. Immediately after Ford was traded, San Francisco chose to sign him to a five-year, $85.5 million contract.

Initially, the 49ers had a plan for Ford to form a dynamic pass-rushing duo with rookie Nick Bosa. While Bosa won the Defensive Rookie of the Year award, Ford left a lot to be desired.

Despite making him one of the highest-paid edge rushers, the 49ers didn't get as much production from Ford as they envisioned. The sixth-year edge rusher would finish the season with just 14 tackles, 6.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles.

However, in training camp, Ford sustained a knee injury that would linger throughout the season. When Ford first suffered the knee injury, it was believed that he could require offseason surgery. In addition, Ford was sidelined for five weeks due to a nagging hamstring injury that he developed later in the season.

Even though injuries affected his performance in 2019, Ford isn't going to undergo any surgeries as of now. Due to the depth of San Francisco's pass-rushing unit this season, the 49ers could afford Ford to miss some time.

But in March, Arik Armstead becomes an unrestricted free agent and could be headed elsewhere. Provided that, the 49ers are hoping to get a better, healthier version of Ford in 2020.
