San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle is slated to receive a lucrative contract extension this offseason. It appears his representation is willing to hold out for as long as possible to get it done.

According to Matt Barrows of The Athletic, Kittle's agent plans on taking a cautious approach with negotiations:

Jack Bechta, the agent for tight end George Kittle, said Thursday he’s prepared to be “very patient” when it comes to a new deal for his client.

“He’s the poster child of culture for that team, of the type of player they want on that team,” Bechta said in Indianapolis

The approach by Kittle's camp is certainly understandable. He has emerged as arguably the best tight end in the NFL in recent years and has led the 49ers in receiving yards the past two seasons while serving as the No. 1 option for quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo in the passing game.

Kittle's prowess as a pass-catcher has even been eclipsed by his role as a blocker in San Francisco's lethal run game. His skill set as a complete tight end paid huge dividends during this team's run to the Super Bowl in the 2019 NFL season.

As a result, the 49ers are going to have to pay a huge price tag if they hope to keep it going. Not only is Kittle set to become the highest-paid tight end in the league, but reports suggest his next contract could garner top receiver money. Of course, both sides are waiting on the new collective bargaining agreement before finishing the process.
