The NFL plans on enforcing their new playoff format in the 2020 season and George Kittle of the San Francisco 49ers is torn on the idea. While stuck in quarantine like the rest of us, Kittle reacted to the NFL expanding their playoffs.

“I love it and I hate it at the same time,” Kittle told #PFTPM on Friday, as transcribed by 49ersWebzone.com. “I like games. I love the playoffs. The playoffs are some of the most exciting times in sports. That bye week for the [number] two seed is huge. I’m all for bye weeks. I like bye weeks.”

Just this past season, the 49ers were able to secure the No. 1 seed in the NFC. Therefore, they were able to have a bye week in the NFC Wild Card Round. Having that week off helped San Francisco advance to the Super Bowl in 2019.

With the NFL's new Collective Bargaining Agreement, the league proposed an idea to expand the playoffs. Under the new CBA, there are going to be seven teams from each conference to make it into the postseason.

Given that, only one team from each conference will be awarded a bye week in the playoffs. However, in the previous playoff format, two teams from each conference were able to have a week to rest in the postseason.

Even though the new playoff format gives another team a chance to play beyond December, it's going to be met with mixed reviews. As for Kittle, he seems to have a love-hate relationship with the upcoming playoff guidelines.
