George Kittle is confident that San Francisco 49ers teammate and wide receiver Deebo Samuel is not going to be traded this year and will be with the team to try to help them win the Super Bowl. While admitting to the fact that he isn't privy to how Samuel and the 49ers are on the negotiation table, Kittle offered some interesting reasoning that kind of checks out during a recent appearance on Bussin With the Boys podcast.

“What’s gonna happen, and this is me not knowing anything, Deebo’s got another year on his contract left regardless, right? Assuming he’s not gonna sit out, that’s a lot of money,” Kittle said. “So he’s either gonna play this year as a Niner with one year left on his deal, or he’s gonna get a contract extension. At this point you can’t even trade him. What’re you gonna trade him for, a first-round pick in next year’s draft? That doesn’t help us this year. Like, come on, you can’t trade for future picks. Not right now. So that window’s kind of closed.”

Samuel is entering the last year of his current contract, the one that he signed for four years in 2019 and is worth $7.24 million. Given what he has already brought to the 49ers' table, Samuel is understandably targeting a much more lucrative extension deal from San Francisco.

Back in the 2021 NFL season, Samuel was a major threat downfield and out of the backfield for the 49ers, who were a win away from an appearance at Super Bowl 56. Samuel finished the 2021 regular season with a team-best 1,406 receiving yards to go with 365 rushing yards and five rushing scores on just 59 carries.
