After a stunning loss in their opening game, the San Francisco 49ers are looking to return to their winning ways. However, they might have to do it without one of their top offensive weapons. Tight end George Kittle remains a game-time decision for the game against the Jets, 49ers general manager John Lynch revealed in a radio interview.

The 26-year old Kittle went down with a knee sprain before halftime in the Niners’ 24-20 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. Kittle had four receptions for 44 yards and one carry for nine yards against the Cardinals, but has not practiced with the team this week.

Kittle, a fifth round draft pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, is expected to have a big season for San Francisco after signing a five-year, $75 million contract extension last month, making him the highest paid tight end in the league.

In his third season for the 49ers, the 26-year-old had 85 receptions, 1,053 receiving yards, and scored five touchdowns in 14 games. In 2018, he broke the NFL record for most receiving yards in a season by a tight end, as he finished with 1,377 receiving yards in 16 games.

In the interview, Lynch also revealed that defensive end Dee Ford is also uncertain for Sunday’s game. Ford, who played in the game against the Cardinals, had an MRI after complaining of neck stiffness and missed the Niners’ Thursday practice.

The 49ers will look to win their first game of the 2020 season when they travel on the road to face the New York Jets at the MetLife Stadium.
