After playing sparingly behind Jimmy Garoppolo in 2021, Trey Lance is now set to take over the San Francisco 49ers. The question, however, is: can he do it and succeed?

While that is something for fans to watch out and see, 49ers legend Jerry Rice has no doubt in his mind that the second-year quarterback is more than ready for a starring role with the franchise. After all, he has he necessary skills and physical tools to thrive with the team.

Rice compared Lance to Garoppolo, noting that he has one key weapon that Jimmy G. never had: the run game.

“Trey Lance, I think he's ready to go. I think he's incredible because he has that one aspect that Jimmy doesn't have and that's the threat of running with the ball and stuff like that. So you know his mobility, his strong arm. … He's a young kid but he's very experienced and I think he's ready to go,” Rice said, via KSBW.

Trey Lance certainly couldn't wish for a better endorsement than that. It's coming from Jerry Rice, who is largely considered one of the best ever to do it.

The 22-year-old QB played in six games for the 49ers in 2021, putting up 603 yards and five touchdowns on 57.7 percent pass-completion rate. While he certainly has a lot of work to do, he did show flashes of brilliance that show he can be a superstar in the league.

It's up to Lance to put in the work, but by the looks of it, he already has one big supporter in Rice.
