If there's one thing that Hall of Fame wide receiver Jerry Rice knows, it's quarterbacks. He's played with the likes of Joe Montana and Steve Young during his time in the league. So he has an understanding of who is and isn't a great quarterback.

And when asked which of the Bay Area quarterbacks (Jimmy Garoppolo and Derek Carr) he'd prefer on his team, he went with the San Francisco 49ers starting quarterback. He wasn't even hesitant when given the option either as he replied with “Jimmy G.” He would go on to say,

“I have always liked Jimmy G, even when he was with the Patriots, because he’s a winner. He has great potential. We just have to keep building around him and hopefully he can get us to the Super Bowl.”

Although Carr is rated higher than Garoppolo in terms of passer rating and isn't as turnover-prone, the former 49ers and Raiders great chooses the former Patriots backup. He believes that Garoppolo can be an elite quarterback and do some great things for the 49ers.

“I think he’s going to continue to get better. You’ve gotta think about what happened to this guy last year when he was injured. It’s just going to take him a couple more games to feel comfortable and then you’re going to see some better play.”

The 49ers are currently 3-0 with the play of Garoppolo being a bit part of it. Although he's shown some struggles early, he should be able to correct that with this bye week.
