The San Francisco 49ers have long been eliminated from playoff contention, but boy are the Niners are having so much fun these days. And how can they not? With the arm of Jimmy Garoppolo now at the team's disposal, things have been going well.

The 49ers started the season with nine straight losses, but won four of their next five contests. That stretch includes their 25-23 win at home on Sunday over the Tennessee Titans, bringing their record to 4-10.

With two games left on their schedule, they suddenly have a good chance of clearing their preseason win total over/under of 5.0.

Perhaps it’s not a coincidence that the Niners’ rejuvenation kicked off right almost at the same time they got quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo via a trade with the New England Patriots late last October.

In the three games Garoppolo has started under center for San Francisco, the Niners have gone 3-0. The quarterback also seemed to have mastered the team’s playbook so quickly, as evidenced by the fact that he just accomplished something no 49ers signal-caller has done since Jeff Garcia way back in 2000.

Per Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area:

For the record, Garoppolo passed for 334 yards in Week 14’s 26-16 win on the road against the Houston Texans before racking up 381 passing yards and a touchdown in the Titans game.

All the 49ers had to give up to get Garoppolo out of New England was a 2018 second-round pick, and over a short period of time, the Eastern Illinois product has looked like San Francisco’s quarterback of the future.

That said, the 49ers have to negotiate a deal with Garoppolo, whose current contract expires at the end of this season.
